Job Description
Amphenol Fiber Systems International (AFSI) is a leading full-service fiber optic company specializing in the fabrication and manufacture of advanced fiber optic connectivity products and systems. Located in Allen, Texas, AFSI is recognized for its dedication to technical excellence, which has established the company as an industry leader in producing sophisticated fiber optic solutions and providing professional technical assistance within the fiber optic industry. The company’s strategy emphasizes strong technical and application support, stringent quality assurance, exceptional product performance, and value to its customers, which has helped maintain its competitive position and reputation for reliability and innovation.
AFSI’s product portfolio includes a variety of fiber optic cable assemblies such as single-mode and multi-mode cables, pigtails, patch cords, MPO/MTP connectors, cabling, and harnesses. These products serve the demanding requirements of telecommunications, data centers, medical technology, defense, and other high-technology sectors. The company’s commitment to continuous innovation and technical development makes it a preferred partner for companies seeking high-quality fiber optic connectivity solutions.
The role available at AFSI is a leadership position within the production team responsible for driving the technical production of high-performance fiber optic cable assemblies. The position requires oversight of the assembly process quality, execution of first-piece inspections, acceptance testing, and providing mentorship and upskilling to assembly technicians. This role also involves collaborating with engineering, quality, and procurement teams to promote design for manufacturability (DFM), resolve supplier issues, and address nonconformance problems. The successful candidate will lead efforts to improve yield, ensure documentation control, and guarantee on-time delivery to customers, thereby ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to quality standards.
Key responsibilities include performing complex fiber optic termination processes such as epoxy/polish, pre-polished, adhesive/UV, mechanical, and MPO/MTP multi-fiber terminations. The role demands strong proficiency in end-face inspection and rework, enforcing connector cleanliness standards, and the ability to troubleshoot production issues while developing effective solutions. The individual will also be tasked with executing and validating assembly test procedures, including insertion loss, return loss, continuity, and OTDR checks for trunk assemblies, and generating detailed, professional test reports that maintain traceability.
This leadership role involves mentoring and training assemblers, leading certification and cross-training activities on the production floor, conducting root cause analysis of assembly defects through techniques like 8D and CAPA, and implementing corrective actions that enhance quality and productivity. The production environment includes controlled clean-room conditions and stringent ESD compliance, requiring enforcement of safety and quality policies. Candidates should have experience with IPC-A-610 or similar assembly/inspection certifications and familiarity with ISO/AS quality systems, traceability, and first article inspection (FAI) processes.
The role requires a minimum high school diploma or GED, with preferred candidates possessing an associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, optical communications, or related fields. The ideal candidate will have 5-8+ years of hands-on fiber optic assembly experience with a demonstrated progression into technical lead or senior assembler roles. Proven expertise in connector termination processes, end-face inspection, and insertion/return loss testing is essential, alongside experience with ERP/MES systems for production and test record management. The ability to lead teams, deliver training, and drive process improvements is critical to success in this position.
Work conditions involve performing repetitive fine motor tasks requiring good near vision (corrective lenses are acceptable), standing or bench work for extended periods, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and adherence to personal protective equipment requirements such as safety glasses, ESD wrist straps, and gloves. Candidates must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR regulations, i.e., U.S. citizens or resident aliens, complying with export control laws.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a technically advanced fiber optic manufacturing environment, balancing hands-on assembly expertise with leadership and continuous improvement responsibilities, within a company that values quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
