The role of Lead Solution Architect at Dell Federal, located in McLean, VA, represents a critical leadership opportunity within the IT and Engineering department. This position requires an individual to serve as the technical visionary and authority over the design, integration, and deployment of a next-generation on-premise private cloud environment. This environment supports secure and resilient mission-critical operations for defense and intelligence sectors, adhering to strict Department of Defense and Intelligence Community security standards. The Lead Solution Architect will harmonize diverse technology stacks including Linux and Windows operating systems, storage solutions, software-defined networking, and unified communications for voice and video.

The professional in this role will champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps methodologies, leveraging platforms like Tinkerbell to enable automated provisioning from bare-metal hardware to operating system layers, ensuring repeatability, reliability, and scalability of deployments. The architect’s leadership spans the entire lifecycle of infrastructure projects, from conceptual design through execution within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Aligning complex technical roadmaps with overarching business and mission objectives is essential, as is guiding cross-functional agile teams to deliver integrated, secure cloud infrastructure.

This role requires securing and integrating Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) to enable secure data transfer across different security enclaves in compliance with DoD/IC standards. The Lead Solution Architect is also responsible for fostering innovation, ensuring high availability and performance of private cloud resources, and driving forward-thinking strategies that anticipate future technological needs. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in IT architecture or cloud engineering roles
  • Active Secret or Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing secure private cloud infrastructures
  • Strong understanding of network automation and provisioning tools
  • Knowledge of DoD and Intelligence Community security standards
  • Ability to work effectively within Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environments
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Design and oversee the implementation of a highly available, multi-tenant on-premise private cloud capable of securely hosting enterprise Linux and Windows server workloads at scale
  • Architect automated provisioning workflows from bare-metal hardware up to the hypervisor/operating system layer using Tinkerbell, Canonical MAAS, or similar IaaS provisioning tools
  • Define, champion, and enforce a Git-centric (GitOps) deployment strategy ensuring all infrastructure and OS configurations are version-controlled and executed via automated, declarative CI/CD workflows
  • Architect Cross Domain Solutions to enable secure, controlled data transfer across multi-level security enclaves adhering to DoD/IC security standards
  • Align complex technical roadmaps with business objectives within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Lead and guide cross-functional agile teams through architectural design and execution phases
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with DoD and Intelligence Community security clearance requirements
