The role of Assistant Food and Beverage (F&B) Manager is based at the iconic InterContinental New York Times Square, a prestigious 36-story hotel located in Midtown Manhattan's Theatre District, offering a tranquil retreat amidst the dynamic atmosphere of Times Square. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the high standards of service and profitability in the hotel's F&B outlets. The Assistant F&B Manager will coordinate, supervise, and direct all aspects of daily operations while ensuring superior product quality and exceptional guest service. Responsibilities include marketing initiatives to boost business growth, minimizing employee turnover through effective leadership, managing revenue and payroll budgets, and maintaining consistently high productivity levels without compromising quality. The position demands excellent problem-solving skills to handle guest complaints promptly and a proactive approach in staff training, performance reviews, and compliance with health, safety, and liquor laws. Being visible on the floor during service periods and coordinating with other managers to address operational issues are essential functions. Job Requirements
- Education level of at least a high school diploma
- Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in hotel or related field
- Ability to lift and exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently or constantly
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Must attend all required meetings and training sessions
- Must maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Must be attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented
- Ability to work long hours when necessary
- Must participate in management on duty coverage
- Must comply with all safety and hotel regulations
Job Qualifications
- At least 2 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field
- Or a 4-year college degree
- Or a 2-year college degree and 1 or more years of related experience
- Must be able to communicate verbally and written effectively with all levels of employees and guests
- Must be effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying concerns
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
- Must participate in M.O.D. coverage as required
- Must maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
- Must comply with Highgate Hotel standards and regulations
- Must be effective in handling problems including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems
- Must maintain confidentiality of information
- Must maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel standards
Job Duties
- Oversee all aspects of the daily operation of the outlet
- Supervise outlet personnel
- Respond to guest complaints in a timely manner
- Work with other F&B managers and keep them informed of issues
- Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of matters requiring attention
- Assist in coordinating and monitoring all phases of loss prevention
- Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner
- Ensure preparation of wage progress, payroll, revenue, employee schedules, quarterly action plans
- Monitor quality of service in F&B outlet
- Assist in menu planning and preparation
- Ensure compliance with local liquor laws, health and sanitation regulations
- Ensure compliance with SOPs and requisition procedures
- Be visible on the floor and assist staff during meal periods
- Conduct staff performance reviews
- Ensure training of employees on SOPs and job tasks
- Interview front-of-house F&B candidates
- Complete tip reporting
- Implement and monitor corporate promotions including buffet and three-meal concepts
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction
