Job Description

The Salvation Army is a renowned international movement and evangelical branch of the universal Christian church, dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and addressing human needs without discrimination. Founded on biblical principles and motivated by the love of God, The Salvation Army has established itself as a compassionate social service organization that provides vital assistance to vulnerable populations across various communities. Known for its extensive charitable programs and community outreach initiatives, The Salvation Army operates numerous social services programs, including emergency food and clothing services, rehabilitation centers, and assistance programs to support families and individuals in need. Its mission is deeply rooted in faith, action, and a commitment to uplifting those experiencing hardship, making it a respected and impactful presence in the field of social services.

The position available is for a Receptionist/Family Services Caseworker within the Social Services department at The Salvation Army. This full-time role offers an immediate start and operates on a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reporting directly to the Corps Officers and the Social Services Director, the successful candidate will earn $16.00 per hour in a non-exempt status. The role is multifaceted, combining administrative responsibilities with direct client service. The Receptionist/Family Services Caseworker will serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers, ensuring smooth daily office operations by managing phone communications, scheduling meetings, handling mail, and maintaining organized records.

In addition to administrative duties, the caseworker aspect of the position requires managing a caseload of individuals and families seeking social services assistance. The caseworker provides vital support within programs such as the Customer Assistance Program, Operation Share, and UGI assistance processes, as well as participating in seasonal initiatives like emergency food and clothing distribution and the back-to-school backpack giveaway. The role emphasizes compassionate client interaction with a strong requirement for bilingual proficiency in Spanish, given that a significant portion of the client base speaks Spanish as their primary language. The ability to fluently read, write, and speak Spanish is highly valued, enabling the caseworker to communicate effectively and deliver culturally competent services.

Employees at The Salvation Army benefit from an excellent compensation package which includes generous paid time off encompassing holidays, personal days, vacation, and sick leave. The organization also provides employer-funded pension plans with company contributions eligible after one year of employment, comprehensive healthcare coverage with affordable premiums, and eligibility for supplemental insurance options including short-term disability, AFLAC, and voluntary term life insurance. Additional benefits such as flexible spending accounts and participation in the Federal Government's Public Student Loan Forgiveness Program further enhance the employment experience.

The Receptionist/Family Services Caseworker role is vital to ensuring clients receive timely and empathetic social service support, maintaining the operational efficiency of the department and fostering cooperation with other social service agencies and community partners. This position calls for a motivated individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to social welfare, organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for helping others in line with The Salvation Army's noble mission.
