Job Description
Wakeman Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality youth development programs and childcare services. Serving the community with a mission to inspire and enable young people to reach their full potential, WBGC focuses on creating a safe, nurturing environment that fosters learning, growth, and healthy relationships. Known for its commitment to community engagement and advocacy, the organization works closely with local schools, governmental agencies, and community-based organizations to enhance the lives of children and families in its service area. WBGC embraces diversity, inclusion, and collaboration as core values in delivering impactful programs that meet the needs of children from early childhood through adolescence.
The Family & Community Engagement Coordinator position at WBGC is a vital, part-time role classified under the Administrative department, reporting directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications. This position offers a pay rate of $21 to $24 per hour and involves working approximately 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends to accommodate community events and family needs. The primary function of this role is to act as the key liaison between the organization, the families it serves, and the broader community. The coordinator enhances family engagement by serving as a trusted point of contact, guiding families through program enrollment and registration while advocating on their behalf to ensure their voices are heard and needs addressed.
In addition to family engagement, the coordinator plays a crucial role in community outreach by building and sustaining strong partnerships with local schools, municipalities, community-based and faith groups, and other stakeholders. This collaborative approach expands awareness of WBGC’s programs, which include early childhood programs for ages 3 to 5, after-school programs for children 6 to 12, summer camp services, and teen programs for ages 13 to 18. Promoting these offerings helps increase enrollment and participation, directly advancing the organization’s mission of youth development.
The role involves significant event planning and coordination responsibilities, including developing a calendar of outreach events and engagement opportunities, managing community events, resource fairs, and school-based activities, and working closely with internal teams to ensure smooth execution. Data collection and reporting are essential components, requiring the coordinator to design and implement systems to capture participant information, track outreach efforts, and provide regular reports on community engagement outcomes. These insights support decision-making, grant writing, and resource development efforts.
WBGC seeks an individual who is outgoing, approachable, culturally competent, and passionate about working with diverse, underserved populations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively engage families and build community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have experience in community engagement, family services, education, or related fields, with bilingual skills preferred, especially Spanish. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work flexible hours make this role a rewarding opportunity for someone dedicated to making a lasting impact on youth and families through meaningful community connections and program support.
