Job Description

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) is a well-established community organization dedicated to providing safe, supportive environments where youth can thrive. Serving families across various locations, WBGC focuses on nurturing the development of children and teens by offering a comprehensive array of programs that address early childhood education, after-school activities, summer camps, and teen engagement. The organization prioritizes creating partnerships with families, schools, local municipalities, and other community-based entities to ensure that every child has access to quality programs that promote growth, learning, and wellbeing. WBGC is recognized for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and fostering a culture of community empowerment and support. The administrative team at WBGC plays a vital role in aligning marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives to connect families with the programs and resources they need.

The Family & Community Engagement Coordinator at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club serves as a pivotal liaison tasked with strengthening the connections between the organization, local families, and the broader community. This part-time role, earning $21 to $24 per hour, involves developing trusted relationships with families to advocate for their needs, guiding them through enrollment processes, and increasing awareness and participation in various WBGC program areas. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Coordinator will lead outreach efforts that build community partnerships with schools, board of education representatives, municipal agencies, and other stakeholder groups. The position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about community engagement, adept at managing outreach events, and skilled at data collection and reporting for continuous program improvement.

Key responsibilities include acting as an in-house advocate for families, facilitating connections to youth development and childcare services, and serving as the primary point of contact for families seeking assistance. The Coordinator will promote WBGC's offerings, which span early childhood education (ages 3-5), after-school programs (ages 6-12), summer camps (ages 6-12), and teen programs (ages 13-18). By collaborating closely with internal teams such as Membership Directors and the Resource Development team, the Coordinator ensures alignment of messaging and engagement across all activities.

Event planning and execution are also fundamental aspects of this role. The Coordinator will manage calendars of outreach events, coordinate participation in community resource fairs and school-based activities, and ensure successful delivery of each initiative through effective collaboration. Additionally, the role involves detailed data collection and maintenance to track community engagement metrics, which informs reporting and supports grant writing efforts.

The ideal candidate brings strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on cultural competency and empathy towards diverse populations. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are preferred to enhance outreach effectiveness. Flexibility to work approximately 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends as needed, is essential. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence youth program participation and foster meaningful community relationships that contribute to the overall mission of WBGC to empower children and families.
