Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a globally recognized non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC has evolved into one of the largest international humanitarian organizations, operating in more than 40 countries around the world and in 29 U.S. cities. The IRC’s mission revolves around providing urgent assistance and long-term support to people devastated by conflict and disaster, helping to restore their health, safety, education, economic stability, and empowerment. The organization’s holistic approach ensures that vulnerable populations can rebuild their lives, regain control over their futures, and strengthen their communities with dignity and hope.
Operating domestically in 28 offices across the United States, including a long-established office in Atlanta since 1979, the IRC has resettled over 30,000 refugees from 67 countries into the Greater Atlanta area alone. The organization focuses on delivering essential services such as access to food, shelter, clothing, and pathways to self-sufficiency by enabling refugees and other affected populations to navigate their new environments effectively. By combining emergency response with long-term development programs, the IRC remains a steadfast force for humanitarian aid and social justice.
The Community Engagement & Match Raising Intern position is a vital part of the Florida Anti-Trafficking team, dedicated to building strong partnerships within the community to support survivors of trafficking. This internship plays a crucial role in amplifying the IRC’s anti-trafficking programs in Miami and Tallahassee by fostering community relationships that help garner resources in the form of monetary, in-kind donations, and volunteer support. Reporting to the Safety & Wellness Program Manager and working closely with local Anti-Trafficking teams, the intern will contribute to strengthening the organization’s capacity to meet the complex needs of survivors and ensure compliance with donor match requirements.
This role is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in international affairs, human rights, and social justice to gain hands-on experience in a professional and multicultural setting. Intern responsibilities include assisting with resource development projects such as community engagement, crafting external communications, event planning, and fundraising activities. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date data in relevant databases, collecting community engagement prospect information, and participating in community events and staff development initiatives are key components of the role.
Although this internship is unpaid, it offers invaluable exposure to the workings of a major humanitarian NGO and a chance to contribute meaningfully to life-changing initiatives. The program requires a time commitment of at least 15 hours per week for three consecutive months, with a preference for continuity through the Spring 2026 semester. This in-person role is ideal for individuals motivated to support vulnerable populations while developing skills in community outreach, data management, and program support within a globally impactful organization.
