Job Description
Scholastic is a globally recognized leader in educational publishing and media, dedicated to helping children become lifelong readers and learners. Founded in 1920, the company has grown into an esteemed institution providing educational materials, classroom magazines, and children’s books to schools, teachers, and parents. Scholastic’s mission revolves around fostering literacy and promoting a love for reading through innovative programs and community engagement. One of their hallmark initiatives is the Scholastic Book Fairs, engaging in-person events that bring books directly to students and families, fostering enthusiasm for literacy in schools across the United States and internationally. Scholastic prides itself on its inclusive culture, where every member of its community — from kids, parents, and caregivers to employees and event organizers — feels valued, respected, and empowered.
The role of Sales Consultant and Event Coordinator at Scholastic focuses on expanding and growing the Scholastic Book Fair programs within a defined territory. This full-time, regular seasonal position is hourly, with a base pay ranging from $22 to $26 per hour, supplemented by a sales compensation program offering seasonal and annual incentives. The anticipated start date for the next onboarding and training class is August 31, 2026. This position is remote and home-based, providing flexible work arrangements while requiring close collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet and exceed sales and event execution goals.
In this capacity, the Sales Consultant and Event Coordinator acts as a key ambassador for Scholastic's mission by helping schools build stronger readers through book fairs. This role blends sales expertise with event planning leadership, requiring individuals to actively manage a portfolio of school accounts, drive bookings, maximize fair performance, and nurture long-term partnerships that support student literacy development. The Sales Consultant is responsible for hitting territory goals related to fair count, revenue, and revenue per fair, emphasizing both customer experience and financial success.
Beyond sales, the role requires excellent project management skills and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Responsibilities include coaching school hosts to optimize community engagement and fair outcomes, upselling promotional and merchandising opportunities, and supporting customer retention and rebooking efforts. Proficiency in CRM systems and a strong ability to document and analyze sales pipeline insights are essential for successful territory management.
Scholastic offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off encompassing vacation, personal and sick days, and 401(k) retirement plans with company match. A generous 50 percent discount on Scholastic merchandise and the possibility of summers off are added incentives making Scholastic an attractive employer for professionals passionate about literacy and sales. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking to leverage their sales and event management skills in an organization firmly dedicated to educational outcomes and children's development. If you excel at building relationships, enjoy influencing customer decisions, and are committed to making a meaningful difference through literacy, this role provides a rewarding career path in a mission-driven environment.
