Job Description
University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College (UA-PTC) is a vital institution within the Arkansas Technical and Community College System, which is governed by the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees along with a seven-member Board of Visitors. The college receives its funding primarily through student tuition, fees, and state legislative appropriations. As a comprehensive two-year college, UA-PTC offers a range of associate degree and certificate programs, geared toward students who intend to transfer to four-year colleges or those preparing for career advancement and technical skills development. The college is located in North Little Rock and plays a pivotal role in the local community and broader Arkansas region by providing accessible education and workforce training in a variety of disciplines.
The faculty position at UA-PTC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute is a full-time, regular employment opportunity that encompasses a non-tenure track faculty role. The role demands delivering a high-quality educational experience that fosters student success by acting as both instructor and facilitator. Faculty members are responsible for teaching a full course load totaling 30 credit hours over the academic year, under the guidance and supervision of the department chair within the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute.
Faculty members in this program engage in a variety of instructional and administrative duties designed to enhance student learning and program effectiveness. This includes maintaining campus presence through office hours as mandated by the campus presence policy, exhibiting flexibility in teaching both day and evening classes, and actively participating in orientations, workshops, training sessions, and college events such as commencements and convocations. Additional responsibilities involve ensuring the timely acquisition of instructional materials and supplies, maintaining cleanliness and operational standards of classrooms and kitchens, and developing dynamic course curricula aligned with learning objectives.
Delivering lesson plans, conducting practical demonstrations on culinary and baking techniques, evaluating student progress, and communicating with advisory committees form the core instructional duties. Faculty also manage accurate student records, timely grading, and comprehensive outcomes assessments. They are expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by tailoring teaching methods to diverse student needs. Engagement in faculty development, program accreditation processes under bodies such as the American Culinary Federation, as well as contributing to special events and restaurant services, are integral to the role.
Beyond instruction, faculty participate in non-instructional activities including student advising, committee work, meetings, and career placement services. Candidates are encouraged to pursue or maintain relevant professional certifications through recognized bodies like the American Culinary Federation or the Worldchefs Society. The position offers a salary of $40,800 and includes access to benefits. Applicants must submit a lesson plan and conduct a teaching demonstration as part of the hiring process, emphasizing both technical expertise and effective educational methodologies.
UA-PTC is committed to equal access and opportunity, providing a safe and inclusive campus community. Background checks and pre-employment screenings are part of the hiring process to ensure safety and compliance. The institution values diversity and does not discriminate based on legally protected categories. This full-time faculty position not only demands culinary expertise but also places a high emphasis on pedagogical skills, professional development, and student engagement within the college’s mission-driven environment.
