Job Description
The City of Davis is a vibrant and community-focused municipality dedicated to providing high-quality public services to its residents. Known for its commitment to enhancing community life, the City operates a variety of public facilities including the Senior Center, Veterans Memorial Center, and other city-owned venues that serve as valuable resources for public and private events. These facilities play a crucial role in fostering community engagement and providing spaces for social, cultural, and recreational activities. The City of Davis prides itself on maintaining welcoming, safe, and accessible environments that accommodate diverse community needs.
The City is currently seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as Facility/Special Event Attendants in a temporary part-time capacity. This role is ideal for candidates looking for a flexible work schedule as the hours range from approximately 5 to 20 hours per week depending on facility reservations. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays on a year-round basis, offering a chance to work within a dynamic community setting. The position pays a competitive wage ranging from $16.97 to $18.73 per hour and does not include benefits, reflecting its temporary and part-time status.
As a Facility/Special Event Attendant, you will work under the direction of the Community Services Supervisor and Program Coordinator assigned to various city facilities such as the Senior Center and Veterans Memorial Center. Your primary responsibility will be to enforce facility policies and procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all patrons. You will assist with the setup of facility equipment including tables, chairs, and miscellaneous equipment for both private and public rentals. Your role will involve providing excellent customer service, responding to inquiries, and addressing customer complaints with professionalism and courtesy.
Key duties include monitoring facility use to ensure compliance with city and departmental policies, recording event details during setup and cleanup, and managing access control by unlocking and locking buildings. Your role also extends to supporting custodial tasks such as re-stocking bathrooms, emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces to meet current health standards. The position requires you to communicate effectively, using both verbal and written skills, and to demonstrate problem-solving skills with minor facility or equipment issues while adhering to safe work practices.
This is an active role requiring physical stamina to perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds. You should be prepared to work in various indoor and outdoor settings, sometimes in challenging conditions such as heat exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, exposure to dust, pollen, noise, and potential slip hazards. Additionally, the role might expose you to bloodborne pathogens when rendering first aid, emphasizing the need for a valid Adult CPR and Basic First Aid certification or the willingness to obtain these certifications within the first three months of employment.
Overall, this position provides a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the community by ensuring the smooth and safe operation of city facilities while allowing for a flexible work schedule that can fit various lifestyles. The City of Davis values strong interpersonal skills such as patience, courtesy, and understanding, which are essential for successfully meeting and exceeding the diverse needs of its facility users. Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to customer service and a proactive attitude toward facility management will find this role fulfilling and impactful.
