The role of Distribution Facility Manager at Performance Team is critical in directing and overseeing all operational functions of our distribution centers. This position is primarily focused on maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, safety, loss prevention, and employee relations while ensuring seamless customer service. The Distribution Facility Manager is tasked with evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, implementing necessary changes, and exercising a wide degree of creativity and judgment to accomplish organizational goals.
This role demands a strategic leader who can develop and maintain operations business plans that cover productivity, labor hours, equipment usage, facility costs, and human resource decisions. The Distribution Facility Manager must ensure that operational procedures such as shipment verification, inventory management, and material handling are rigorously followed to maintain operational excellence. Additionally, the manager reviews operating reports to identify maintenance or operational problems, leading efforts to resolve issues promptly with cost-effectiveness and minimal delays.
Financial acumen is essential in this position, as you will be responsible for managing the facility's profit and loss (P&L), conducting financial analyses, and aggressively controlling operational expenses. Collaboration with port management is vital to facilitate drayage services smoothly, ensuring the seamless flow of goods. Administrative responsibilities include compiling, storing, and retrieving data for reports, maintaining active communication with customers, and supporting all facets of operational management.
Safety remains a top priority, with the role requiring monitoring of work teams to enforce safe practices and maintain proper housekeeping standards. Guidance on safety and security matters is provided regularly, coordinating with corporate as needed. The facility manager is ultimately accountable for achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) and must maintain a strong focus on Ecommerce and Omni Channel fulfillment strategies.
Key areas of distribution oversight include shipping, receiving, picking, packing, inventory management, and value-added services (VAS) activities. The role involves managing import deconsolidation and domestic consolidation processes, supporting store delivery functions such as unloading, sorting, palletizing, load-out, and ensuring on-time delivery. In addition, overseeing domestic pickup and delivery functions, as well as repair and maintenance of the facility and transportation fleet, are responsibilities included in this comprehensive role.
Continuous improvement techniques are employed to boost labor productivity and process accuracy while upholding a clean and safe work environment. As a leader, the Distribution Facility Manager conducts mentoring, coaching, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and recruitment efforts, directly supervising five or more employees and indirectly overseeing a workforce exceeding 200 associates. This role requires managing a flexible workforce including temporary employees to accommodate volume fluctuations.
Education and experience requirements specify a bachelor's degree and 7 to 15 years of progressive experience in a fast-paced transportation and warehousing environment. Ideal candidates have demonstrated expertise in managing both transportation and warehousing operations within a third-party logistics (3PL) setting and possess strong knowledge of transportation management, drayage services, contract negotiations, and performance metrics management. Familiarity with Lean and continuous improvement methodologies, warehouse management systems (WMS), and transportation management systems (TMS/YMS) is highly desirable.
