Job Description

King County Parks is a vital part of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP), managing one of the nation’s most extensive park systems and serving diverse communities throughout the region. This agency is dedicated to protecting and restoring the natural environment, enhancing public access to green spaces, and fostering equitable and inclusive recreational opportunities. Through its commitment to racial and social justice, King County Parks aims to create welcoming, safe, and engaging spaces that support the health and well-being of residents and visitors alike. Known for its leadership in sustainability and community engagement, King County Parks represents a dynamic workplace where employees can make a meaningful impact by serving one of the nation’s best places to live, work, and play.

The role of Facility Coordinator at King County Parks is a part-time position offering multiple openings across several strategic locations including the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, White Center/Skyway (Steve Cox Memorial Park and West Hill Community Center), and Preston Community Center. These locations serve a wide range of recreational activities and community events spanning swim meets, community programs, athletic field use, and private event rentals such as weddings and celebrations. Facility Coordinators play a crucial role in supporting the safe and smooth operation of these parks and facilities during events and programs by ensuring facilities are secured, properly maintained, and operated in alignment with established policies and guidelines.

This position is ideal for individuals passionate about fostering community connection through recreational programming and event support. Facility Coordinators engage directly with patrons, renters, and visitors, providing excellent customer service while enforcing safety and operational policies to ensure a positive experience for all. These roles require flexibility to work varied shifts which often include evenings, weekends, and split schedules, making them suitable for those seeking supplemental employment or part-time work in an impactful public service environment.

King County Parks teams are committed to equity-driven service and actively promote inclusive recreational access, emphasizing underserved and under-resourced communities. Candidates joining this team will be part of an organization focused on workforce diversity, inclusion, and belonging, offering opportunities for professional growth, meaningful community impact, and hands-on experience in facility operations, event coordination, and customer engagement.

Facility Coordinators will find themselves working in dynamic environments—ranging from an Olympic-sized aquatic center with world-class sporting events to community centers that foster local partnerships and social programming. This variety provides enriching work experiences and the chance to contribute to high-quality recreational opportunities that benefit the entire King County region.

Eligible King County employees benefit from a comprehensive compensation and benefits package designed to support overall health, wellness, and financial security, including medical, dental, and vision coverage options, retirement plans, paid holidays, and flexible spending accounts. King County also encourages balance and work-life integration through flexible schedules and telecommuting options when applicable.

This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in joining a leading public agency that not only protects natural resources but also prioritizes racial and social justice, employee well-being, and equitable community engagement. King County Parks offers a welcoming environment where employees can grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and be part of an innovative team recognized nationally for government service excellence.
