Job Description
This operations position is a key role within a company committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-functioning facility. The company operates in the industrial or manufacturing sector where facility upkeep, security, and equipment maintenance are integral to business success. The position includes managing labor hours and consumable supplies within budget, developing and maintaining emergency response plans, and ensuring that all preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment such as ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC, fire protection, and security systems are strictly followed. The operations supervisor will also coordinate with other departments to ensure timely and efficient facility repairs and upgrades.
This job also entails maintaining certificates of insurance and hold harmless agreements for contracted vendors, regularly auditing the completion and accuracy of required documentation and safety inspections, and ensuring consistent enforcement of company policies and procedures related to facility management. The role demands proactive communication with associates through department meetings, answering questions, and maintaining high morale and engagement.
In addition, this role requires handling disciplinary actions, staff management including selection, training, performance evaluations, and terminations as necessary. The supervisor will assist with safety training initiatives and participate in accident investigations and safety audits. The position calls for a high level of hands-on involvement, occasionally performing duties normally assigned to maintenance associates while ensuring all operations run smoothly and comply with relevant laws and standards.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, at least five years of relevant maintenance experience, and certifications including ammonia operation and HAZWOPER training. Strong professional skills in interpreting business and technical information, report writing, presentation, mathematics, and technology software are essential. Physical demands include the ability to perform manual tasks, lift heavy loads, and work in various environmental conditions including confined spaces and extreme weather. Non-traditional working hours are part of the job requirements, reflecting the need for operational continuity at all times.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- At least 5 years of maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Must have a valid state driver’s license
- Completion of a Sysco approved defensive driving program
- Must have Level 1 Ammonia Operation Certification or obtain within 60 days
- HAZWOPER 24 hrs Training required or to be obtained within 60 days
- Certificates and licenses in refrigeration
- Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification within 3 months
- Ability to read and interpret business and technical materials
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Proficiency in office software
- Knowledge of ammonia and Freon systems
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and laws
- Ability to lead teams and enforce policies consistently
- Capability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Ability to comply with local, state and federal regulations
- Capability to work flexible and non-traditional hours
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform various physical tasks

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum 5 years maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and provide proof of liability coverage
- Completion of a Sysco approved defensive driving program
- Level 1 Ammonia Operation Certification required or must obtain within 60 days and pass on the first try
- Level 2 Ammonia Operation Certification preferred
- HAZWOPER 24 hrs Training required or must obtain within 60 days and pass on the first try
- Certificate, licenses and registrations in refrigeration required
- Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification within 3 months
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Effective presentation and communication skills
- Competency in basic mathematics
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work with limited standardization

Job Duties
- Manages the daily work and safety of associates engaged in building, grounds, sanitation, refrigeration systems, beverage department, power industrial equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), automation, and security
- Oversees labor hours and consumable supplies within budget
- Prepares work schedules including extra work days and shifts as needed
- Coordinates emergency response or crisis management activities, develops and maintains liaisons with local emergency management and other entities
- Supervises the proper selection, purchase, utilization, and inventory of company assets
- Develops business relationships to ensure communication and efficient operations with third-party vendors
- Maintains current certificate of insurance and hold harmless agreements for all contracted vendors
- Establishes preventative maintenance schedules for all systems, equipment, and buildings including ammonia refrigeration system, HVAC systems, fire protection and security systems, electrical and energy management, dock doors/dock plate systems, power industrial equipment, MHE, automation, building components
- Handles, assigns, and monitors department projects for quality and timely completion
- Utilizes maintenance tracking software for task management
- Conducts audits ensuring inspections and documentation are completed accurately
- Preserves associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings
- Interprets, trains and enforces company policies
- Coordinates with Safety department for training, observations, accident investigations, and inspections
- Makes recommendations for disciplinary actions
- Executes management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and terminations
- Performs duties of associates when required
- Complies with local, state and federal regulatory agencies
