Job Description
Nordstrom, Inc. is a leading luxury department store chain known for offering high-quality products and exceptional customer service across its stores and Nordstrom Rack locations. With a strong focus on providing an outstanding retail environment, Nordstrom is committed to creating well-maintained, safe, and welcoming spaces for both customers and employees. The company emphasizes teamwork, professional development, and maintaining a customer-focused atmosphere, enabling employees to thrive in their roles while supporting the overall business objectives. Nordstrom operates in multiple locations, maintaining high standards in facility and store management to ensure all aspects of store operations run smoothly and consistently.
The Maintenance Technician II role at Nordstrom is a critical position responsible for helping lead a skilled team to maintain and optimize the store’s facility systems. This full-time, in-person position typically involves working 40 hours per week with a schedule primarily during morning and day shifts, but also includes some evening and weekend shifts, reflecting the dynamic nature of retail operations. With an hourly pay range between $25.75 and $43.00, the role offers competitive compensation that varies depending on location, experience, and skills.
In this position, the Maintenance Technician II supports the Facility Manager by ensuring the store environment is ready and fully operational for business every day. This involves oversight of crucial building systems such as HVAC, vertical transportation, restaurant equipment, entryways, signs, and overall building infrastructure. The role requires advanced troubleshooting capabilities, managing work orders, and delegating tasks efficiently among the maintenance team. Moreover, the Maintenance Technician II acts as a key liaison with Store Leadership and vendors, supports administrative responsibilities such as ordering parts and setting up meetings, and plays an important safety leadership role within the facilities team.
Key daily responsibilities include leading preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, monitoring and operating building controls, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This person must also be capable of mentoring junior technicians, updating computerized maintenance management systems, and communicating effectively with multiple stakeholders, including contractors and property managers. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating equipment and system malfunctions while maintaining accurate documentation and records to support operational excellence.
Nordstrom values applicants with a solid foundation in facility maintenance, preferably with associates or higher education from vocational schools or colleges. A strong background with over five years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, particularly related to HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry, is essential. Candidates should possess strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting both low voltage and electromechanical systems and demonstrate the ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and parts ordering platforms are also required.
Physical demands of the job include regular stooping, climbing stairs or ladders, walking, and lifting heavy loads up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Nordstrom offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement plans with 401(k) matching, paid time off, life and disability insurance, employee discounts, and more. Additionally, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives or bonuses.
This role is an excellent opportunity for experienced maintenance professionals seeking to grow within a reputable retail company that values safety, teamwork, and quality maintenance practices. Nordstrom promotes a culture of ongoing learning and advancement, making this position an ideal step for individuals committed to maintaining the highest standards in store operations and facility upkeep.
