Job Description
The American Red Cross is a renowned humanitarian organization dedicated to providing emergency assistance, disaster relief, and education in the United States. Known as the world’s largest humanitarian network, the American Red Cross touches millions of lives every year through its comprehensive programs and services. Founded over a century ago, the organization continues to uphold its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. It engages thousands of volunteers and employees who share a commitment to service and community resilience. With a robust infrastructure supporting disaster response, health and safety education, blood donation drives, and support for military families, the American Red Cross remains a vital force in communities nationwide.
The current opportunity with the American Red Cross is for a Maintenance Technician position based in the Phoenix area. This role is essential for maintaining and repairing the organization’s facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment for employees, volunteers, and the communities served. The role involves working under limited supervision, performing repairs in various trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and welding. The Maintenance Technician will also be tasked with preventative maintenance work, inspecting machinery and infrastructure to avoid breakdowns, and operating mechanical equipment like boilers, chillers, motors, pumps, and related systems.
This position plays a critical role in supporting the American Red Cross’s mission by ensuring that their operational facilities remain in excellent condition, enabling uninterrupted response to emergencies and ongoing community support. The Maintenance Technician is also expected to work collaboratively with a diverse team, provide leadership guidance to volunteers, and comply with all safety and regulatory standards. The candidate should be prepared for on-call duties and occasional travel to other locations within proximity to Phoenix, up to a 45-minute radius.
The American Red Cross values employees who demonstrate a commitment to flexibility, cooperation, and public service. The ideal candidate will have a blend of trade skills and the ability to communicate effectively, manage vendor relationships, and use relevant software tools. The position requires a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and the physical capability to perform varied maintenance tasks. In return, the American Red Cross offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision plans, paid time off, holidays, 401(k) matching, family leave, employee assistance programs, and disability insurance.
Joining the American Red Cross means becoming part of a purposeful career path that goes beyond typical employment. It’s an invitation to be part of a movement dedicated to helping people and strengthening communities every day. This role offers a unique blend of technical work and meaningful impact, where every repair and maintenance task supports a larger mission of hope and resilience. It’s a chance to grow professionally while contributing to a cause that touches lives for the better, embodying the spirit of service that defines the American Red Cross.
