The core responsibility of this role involves performing semi-skilled custodial work including heavy cleaning tasks like mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing floors. Facilities Servicepersons work to maintain cleanliness in various areas such as cafeterias, restrooms, offices, gymnasiums, hallways, and outdoor areas adhering to custodial standards. This ensures that the environment remains clean, orderly, and visually appealing while safeguarding the health and safety of facility occupants. They are expected to handle garbage disposal efficiently by emptying trash and debris containers and relocating waste to appropriate disposal areas. Other essential physical tasks include sweeping, vacuuming, brushing floors, and performing heavy lifting as required. Maintaining sanitary conditions in restroom and shower facilities by washing, sanitizing, and restocking supplies is another critical function. Beyond cleaning duties, the Facilities Serviceperson engages in minor repair work and maintenance of equipment. Tasks such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning light fixtures, changing air conditioning filters, moving school furniture, lubricating machinery parts, and ensuring the proper functioning and storage of equipment are routine. Operation of heavy equipment like floor stripping and sealing machines or industrial vacuums is also a component of the job, demanding skill and safety awareness. The role requires adherence to established safety protocols and federal, state, and school board policies to promote a secure working environment. The Facilities Serviceperson assists with unloading and organizing supplies and furniture and communicates any major equipment or structural problems to supervisors promptly.
