Among its many academic departments, the COMM & THEATRE ARTS department plays a crucial role in providing students with exceptional education and practical experience in theater and communication studies.\n\nThe Facilities Manager position at Old Dominion University’s Academic Affairs division is a pivotal role responsible for managing stage and performance-related operations across multiple university theaters, including the Old Dominion University Theatre, Goode Theatre, and Brock Commons. This full-time, non-exempt role reports directly to the Director of Theatre Facilities and involves a broad scope of responsibilities that encompass promotion, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and purchasing. The Facilities Manager is tasked with ensuring the smooth operation and technical excellence of theatrical productions and performances hosted by the university. This includes overseeing technical setups such as load-ins, lighting hangs, sound and lighting system configurations, and stage crew coordination.\n\nIn addition to the logistical and technical duties, the Facilities Manager must work closely with internal staff and external partners to uphold high standards of production quality and safety. The role demands strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to supervise and lead stage crew activities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in all aspects related to event production. The ideal candidate will bring foundational knowledge in stage management, carpentry, rigging, electrics, sound, properties, or theatrical design as well as the capability to utilize technical theatre software and maintain festival plots for sound and lighting.
