Job Description
The Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) is a well-established public agency dedicated to providing quality recreational services, maintaining park facilities, and enhancing community amenities in the Conejo Valley area. With a strong commitment to enriching the lives of local residents, CRPD manages numerous parks, playgrounds, community pools, and recreational facilities, ensuring they are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. This government entity emphasizes ongoing maintenance, safety inspections, and community engagement to foster a vibrant and welcoming environment for all visitors. CRPD values diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, encouraging qualified individuals from various backgrounds to join their team and contribute to public service and community wellbeing.
The position available is a journey-level skilled Maintenance Worker with a focus on building, facility, and pool maintenance. Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks and limited construction activities across the District's buildings, park amenities, playgrounds, and aquatic facilities. This role demands proficiency in multiple building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and HVAC repairs. The Maintenance Worker will perform inspections to identify facility deficiencies and safety hazards and execute repairs to ensure compliance with standards and community safety.
Key responsibilities include carpentry work such as installing and repairing fascia, siding, cabinetry, and office furniture as well as electrical installations including lighting and sub-panels. The incumbent will handle roofing repairs with various materials, plumbing system maintenance involving commercial fixtures, and HVAC installation or repairs. Additional duties involve painting, flooring repairs, fabrication from construction materials, welding and cutting of metal parts, and maintenance of aquatic pool equipment like pumps and chemical feed systems.
This role is physically demanding and requires regular use of hands, lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds, and working at heights possibly up to sixty feet using aerial lifts. The job entails exposure to weather conditions, odors, chemicals, noise, fumes, and occasionally working in hazardous or uncomfortable environments. The position may also require weekend work, rotating schedules, overtime, and emergency response participation during disasters, reflecting the dynamic and sometimes unpredictable nature of maintenance work in public parks and recreation facilities.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with at least four years of related building, facility, and pool maintenance experience with expertise in at least two trades. A Certified Pool Operator license and a valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record and insurance are required. Additionally, candidates must pass a pre-employment physical exam and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Strong communication skills, basic math proficiency, the ability to read technical documents, and the capacity to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
This is a non-exempt, in-person position, offering competitive hourly wages ranging from $35.47 to $43.12. CRPD supports employee well-being with a robust benefits package including health and dental insurance, life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans. The organization practices equal opportunity employment and encourages individuals with criminal records and disabilities to apply, providing reasonable accommodation during the recruitment process. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining high standards for public recreational spaces, directly impacting community quality of life, and ensuring safe, enjoyable environments for all visitors.
