Job Description
Boeing is a globally recognized aerospace leader committed to innovation and excellence. As a company, Boeing focuses on designing, manufacturing, and supporting commercial airplanes, defense systems, space and security technologies, and a range of services that touch every aspect of aerospace and beyond. Boeing fosters an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that every teammate has the opportunity to thrive in a respectful and welcoming workplace. With decades of experience and a reputation for quality and leadership, Boeing continuously works toward making the world a better place through its advanced technologies and collaborative culture.
The Boeing Company is offering an exciting opportunity through its IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program for a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice, located in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. This is a comprehensive 5-year apprenticeship program that combines 10,000 hours of paid on-the-job training with essential classroom education. Apprentices will receive hands-on experience vital to becoming skilled technicians equipped to maintain complex mechanical and plumbing systems within Boeing’s production and facility environments. The program starts with a 20% probationary period, which allows new apprentices to adjust and gain practical experience in their roles. Throughout the school year, apprentices are expected to attend at least 144 unpaid hours of classroom instruction registered through a local community and technical college.
This apprenticeship follows a structured wage progression system as stipulated by the collective bargaining agreement between the International Association of Machinists District 751 and Boeing. Wages increase incrementally for every 1,000 hours of documented on-the-job training until the program’s completion. Upon graduation, apprentices will receive a journey-worker certificate and card, recognized worldwide, and will be placed in the target job position at the maximum wage rate.
As a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice, you will play an integral role in maintaining and enhancing vital plumbing and mechanical systems that ensure smooth operations within Boeing’s facilities. This role involves working with diverse systems, such as steam equipment, pneumatic controls, sprinkler systems, valves, and pumps. You will develop technical expertise in diagnosing system issues, performing preventive maintenance, and improving system reliability. A strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols are essential. Collaborating with engineering, operations, and procurement teams, you will contribute to planning, executing, and optimizing systems to meet operational needs effectively and efficiently.
This role offers an invaluable learning experience coupled with the chance to make a significant, visible impact on Boeing’s operations by ensuring all maintenance tasks are conducted safely, following industry standards and regulatory requirements. The position requires a commitment to working onsite full-time at the designated Puget Sound locations, and the role is governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Applicants must meet Export Control compliance as defined under federal regulations, meaning that only U.S. Persons as specified can be considered. The position is offered as first shift but may involve occasional training on other shifts. Boeing prioritizes a drug-free workplace and requires successful candidates to pass pre-employment drug screenings.
Salary for this apprenticeship position starts at $45.65 per hour with potential progression up to $61.01 per hour according to the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants are advised to thoroughly review and complete all application steps, including proficiency assessments and documentation of education or work experience, to confirm eligibility. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background or interest in maintenance, plumbing, or mechanical systems who are seeking professional growth through a structured apprenticeship program with a top-tier aerospace company.
