The role in question is that of a Custodial and Maintenance Worker, tasked with performing repetitive manual labor encompassing general and specialized cleaning tasks, event-related duties, and maintenance of assigned facilities. This position is integral to the upkeep and maintenance of the cleanliness and safety standards of the facility. Responsibilities include opening and closing facilities as scheduled, conducting security and safety inspections, vacuuming, scrubbing, buffing floors, discarding trash, and maintaining cleanliness in spaces such as swim and fitness centers, pool decks, restrooms, and locker rooms. The worker is also responsible for setting up and breaking down furniture for events, performing maintenance tasks like changing filters and cleaning equipment, and ensuring the proper handling and stocking of cleaning chemicals.
This role requires the ability to perform a wide variety of semiskilled maintenance tasks and handle potentially hazardous chemicals safely. Employees must be physically capable of lifting heavy items and working in various conditions including outside weather, high places, and moderately noisy environments. The position demands a high attention to detail to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are met consistently, as well as good attendance and punctuality. The Custodial and Maintenance Worker operates under the direction of a supervisor but does not have supervisory responsibilities themselves. Job Requirements
- Valid Arizona driver's license and good driving record for insurance purposes
- sufficient training and education to demonstrate possession of required knowledge, skills and qualifications
- ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one year increasingly responsible facility management and three years of increasingly responsible custodial or maintenance experience
- knowledge of principles and procedures of janitorial and routine building maintenance
- safe handling of potentially hazardous chemicals
- ability to perform a wide variety of semiskilled maintenance tasks
Job Duties
- Opening and closing of facilities or rooms as scheduled
- perform security and safety inspections of assigned areas as needed
- vacuuming, bonneting, extracting, and spot cleaning any assigned carpeted areas
- sweeping, scrubbing, burnishing, or buffing, mopping, and disinfecting different floor types
- empty and discard trash throughout an assigned area or facility
- setting up and breaking down tables and chairs for various functions
- maintaining the cleanliness of the swim and fitness center, pool deck, restrooms, showers, and locker rooms
- completes maintenance tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor
- assists co-workers as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor
- maintain the cleanliness of a facility as directed by the supervisor of the specific facility
- stocks, maintains, and is responsible for the chemicals needed to maintain the functionality and/or cleanliness of an assigned area of responsibility
- maintaining the functionality of all types of equipment needed to perform assigned tasks not to be limited to changing or cleaning filters, replacing bags, wiping down the housing, and rinsing out solution and recovery tanks
- ability to climb a ladder for the purpose of performing tasks such as light bulb changes, sign hanging, etc.
- performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/required
- maintains consistent record of acceptable attendance and punctuality according to policy guidelines
- other duties as assigned
