Job Requirements
- Completion of 12th grade
- One year of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or related building cleaning experience
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license
- Ability to pass a law enforcement background investigation and maintain clearance
- Ability to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Ability to comply with employment eligibility verification
- Ability to perform physical examination if required
Job Qualifications
- Completion of 12th grade
- One year of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or related building cleaning experience
- Knowledge of math sufficient to add working hours
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of basic custodial equipment
- Ability to use proper cleaning solutions and equipment
- Ability to maintain custodial equipment
- Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to read and understand instructions in equipment maintenance manuals and on cleaning supplies
- Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers and others contacted in the course of duty
- Ability to observe safe work practices
- Ability to determine when cleaning is necessary and the proper equipment and solutions to use
- Ability to accurately mix cleaning solutions
- Ability to maintain cleaning equipment
- Ability to identify safety hazards
Job Duties
- Clean offices and restrooms
- Sweep, mop, wax, strip, vacuum, and scrub floors, stairways and halls
- Vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Dust, polish and wash furniture
- Clean light fixtures, vents, walls, sinks, windows, window shades, blinds, ashtrays, drinking fountains, and utility sinks
- Empty waste receptacles
- Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment and setting up rooms for special events
- Make minor non-technical repairs such as replacing lights, adjusting shades or blinds, or adjusting desks and other furniture
- Operate electrical floor polishing machines
- Sweep outside areas and sidewalks
- Check security of building before leaving, locking doors, and turning off lights
- Prepare route worksheets, time cards, and lists of supplies needed
- Keep utility storage area and custodial equipment clean and in good order
- May fuel equipment and auxiliary tanks in a Public Works setting
