Serving as a vital source of news, cultural programming, and educational content, KMUW has built a reputation for fostering community connections through diverse and engaging storytelling. As an establishment dedicated to serving both on-campus and off-campus communities, KMUW offers an environment where innovation and outreach are paramount, embracing the power of media to connect people, ideas, and opportunities. Operating within the WSU Old Town campus, KMUW plays an essential role in enhancing the cultural life of Wichita and beyond through thoughtfully curated programming and community engagement strategies.
The External Engagement Coordinator role at KMUW is a full-time position designed for a dynamic individual passionate about community connection, content creation, and event planning. With an entry-level salary ranging from $46,000 to $55,000 commensurate with experience, this role operates on a Monday through Friday schedule from 9 AM to 5 PM, with occasional weekend commitments. The coordinator is entrusted with the mission of building meaningful relationships between KMUW and its diverse community audience. Central to this role is the development of creative and accessible digital content that captivates and informs through social media platforms, newsletters, and other promotional materials, thereby amplifying KMUW's presence and mission.
Beyond digital content, the External Engagement Coordinator collaborates extensively to strategize and execute events that resonate with the community's culture and conversation. This includes planning outreach initiatives that foster dialogue and collaboration among listeners and partners, thereby strengthening KMUW's role as an essential community hub. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, possessing strong communication skills and a proactive approach to making impactful connections behind the scenes and in public-facing contexts. This role requires a strategic mindset to leverage data and engagement metrics to continuously refine outreach efforts for maximum effectiveness, making it pivotal in strengthening KMUW's audience engagement and brand image.
As part of their responsibilities, the coordinator will also collaborate with various department stakeholders to design and produce visually appealing digital content that aligns with Wichita State University's brand guidelines. This position requires an individual who is adept at multitasking, managing time efficiently, and adhering to deadlines, ensuring the smooth operation of outreach campaigns and events. While no export control requirements are involved, proficiency in social media management and event coordination, paired with a genuine enthusiasm for storytelling and community engagement, are critical for success in this role.
KMUW values educational experience and practical expertise; the role requires at least 60 hours of college coursework in communications, marketing, or related fields, complemented by three years of relevant professional experience, with allowances for substituting additional coursework for experience. Although no formal licenses or certifications are mandatory, ideal candidates bring proven social media engagement skills across multiple platforms and demonstrated event planning and execution experience.
In summary, the External Engagement Coordinator at KMUW is a central figure in fostering community relationships through innovative media and event initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by connecting people and sharing stories that matter within the vibrant cultural landscape of Wichita and beyond. If you are a motivated communicator with a passion for community, content, and collaboration, this position at KMUW offers a rewarding and engaging career path.
