Job Description
Extended Stay America - Virginia Beach is a premier extended stay hotel located conveniently just 5 miles from the Norfolk International Airport. This hotel is designed to meet the specific needs of guests looking for a comfortable, home-like experience during longer stays. Featuring spacious suites equipped with modern kitchens that include a refrigerator and a dishwasher, it caters to travelers who appreciate the ability to prepare their own meals. The property goes beyond just a place to stay by offering an array of amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool for relaxation, a well-equipped gym to maintain fitness routines, and barbecue facilities designed to enhance the guest experience. Additionally, guests benefit from free Wi-Fi access throughout the property, enabling them to stay connected seamlessly, and free public parking with required reservations, making travel and stays hassle-free. The hotel prides itself on speaking multiple languages, ensuring all guests feel welcome and well cared for regardless of their background.
Now, stepping into the role of Assistant General Manager at Extended Stay America - Virginia Beach is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a leadership capacity within hospitality. This position is an hourly yet overtime-eligible management role that requires a dynamic and resourceful individual to support the General Manager in all aspects of hotel operations. The Assistant General Manager acts as a pivotal figure ensuring the smooth functioning of multiple departments and actively boosting hotel profitability. Supervising teams, supporting recruitment, training, and employee development programs form a core part of this role, highlighting the importance of leadership and talent management skills.
In the absence of the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager takes full responsibility for overseeing all operational aspects, maintaining high standards of guest service, ensuring operational efficiency, and aligning daily activities with established financial and service objectives. The job demands excellence in communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on creating an environment where guests leave satisfied and team members feel supported and motivated. The position emphasizes a proactive approach to identifying challenges, fostering collaborative problem-solving within the team, and reinforcing a culture of hospitality excellence.
Candidates looking to step into this role should expect to embody the qualities of a 'Captain of Collaboration'—leading with confidence across various departments, a 'Master of Solutions' who tackles problems promptly, a 'Talent Scout & Coach' involved in staffing and development, and a 'Messenger Extraordinaire' who ensures clear communication channels. Familiarity with financial tools and reporting, especially using Windows operating systems, is vital to manage budgets and forecast expenses accurately. Maintaining professional appearance and grooming is also an essential part of the position, reflecting the company’s commitment to high standards.
This position is designed for those who are enthusiastic about hospitality and service and seek a rewarding role where they can make a tangible difference. The Assistant General Manager is expected to foster an inclusive, service-oriented culture that prioritizes guest satisfaction and employee growth equally. Given the opportunity for overtime and the necessity for open mid-shift availability, this role suits candidates who are flexible and ready to step up when the hotel needs them most. This position does not just represent a job but a chance to be part of a leading hospitality team dedicated to sparking memorable experiences for guests every day.
