Job Description

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a global sports and media powerhouse committed to inspiring and connecting people worldwide through the transformative power of basketball. As a multifaceted organization, the NBA encompasses five professional sports leagues: the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and the Basketball Africa League. With an unparalleled international footprint, the NBA reaches audiences in 214 countries and territories, broadcasting games and content in 60 languages and offering merchandise in over 200 countries and territories across all seven continents. The league’s commitment to global community and inclusivity is demonstrated by its historic 2024-25 season rosters, featuring a record-tying 125 international players from 43 different countries. NBA Digital advances the league’s reach through NBA TV, NBA.com, the NBA App, and NBA League Pass, while its impressive social media presence includes more than 2.3 billion likes and followers across all league, team, and player platforms. Beyond sports, NBA Cares, the league’s social responsibility branch, vigorously partners with community organizations worldwide to tackle issues related to education, inclusion, youth and family development, and health and wellness.

The Senior Director, Experiential Business Lead, operates within the NBA Events Department, primarily working with the Event Management team to spearhead fan engagement and ticket revenue growth for the league’s marquee events and scalable experiences. This role is essential in bridging the Events group and the broader NBA Marketing organization. The Experiential Business Lead collaborates cross-functionally with crucial departments such as Data Strategy and Analytics, Creative Services, Brand, Content, Fan Engagement, and Digital to ensure strategic alignment with broader organizational marketing goals and creative vision. They are responsible for translating overarching campaign and tentpole event themes into cohesive, event-specific marketing plans that effectively enhance fan reach, engagement, and revenue performance.

The role sits at the confluence of fan insights, experiential strategy, and revenue-focused go-to-market execution, leveraging fan data to transform event concepts into fan-first platforms that scale successfully. In a dynamic, fast-paced environment that blends ambitious creative goals with commercial outcomes, this leader works closely with Event General Managers (GMs) to guarantee each marquee event launches on a strong strategic footing. This includes defining target audiences and implementing tactics designed to attract, convert, and retain fans, aligning with measurable engagement and revenue objectives.

While Event GMs are responsible for the operational aspects such as production, logistics, and day-to-day event management, the Senior Director focuses intensely on fan demographics, storytelling, and the broader strategic objectives of the event. The role owns the marketing strategy and tactical roadmap for each marquee event experience and partners closely with Event Strategy, which handles long-term event vision, partnership growth, and new event innovation.

The position offers a hybrid work option allowing eligible employees to work remotely one day per week. The salary range for this role is competitive, falling between $170,000 and $190,000, complemented by a discretionary annual performance bonus. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, fertility and family-forming assistance, wellbeing allowances, educational assistance, mental health support, tax-advantaged accounts such as HSAs and FSAs, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid time off encompassing vacation, sick leave, and personal days. The NBA fosters an inclusive hiring environment that considers applicants based on merit, qualifications, and business needs without discrimination and commits to providing a safe, vaccinated workplace with accommodation options as necessary.
