The Experienced Geotechnical Lab Technician II role at Intertek-PSI offers an outstanding career opportunity for individuals passionate about the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. As a Geotechnical Lab Technician II, you will conduct a variety of soil and construction material tests, utilizing industry-standard equipment and ASTM procedures to analyze soil properties and support construction project quality assurance. The position demands attention to detail, mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining lab equipment, and the ability to interpret technical documentation such as drawings and specifications to complete assigned tasks efficiently.

The role requires carrying out tests such as Atterberg Limits, Sieve Analysis, Unconfined Compressive Strength, Triaxial testing (UU, CU), Swell and permeability tests among others. You will be expected to independently operate testing equipment, maintain calibration standards, document results meticulously, and perform site assessments adhering to detailed, controlled procedures under general supervision. This role suits individuals who can work flexible hours, including overnight shifts and overtime when needed, and who can physically handle lab work demands like lifting and standing for prolonged periods. Experience in geotechnical soil testing and a commitment to safety and accuracy will be key to success.

Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of geotechnical laboratory testing experience
  • Experience with ASTM soil lab testing
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
  • Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently
  • Occasionally able to lift over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (hearing) and make discriminations in sound
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions including hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to climb occasionally and work at various heights
  • Ability to work overnight hours and off shift

Job Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of geotechnical laboratory testing experience
  • Experience with ASTM soil lab testing
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
  • Ability to operate testing equipment independently
  • Ability to understand and utilize technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to document test results accurately
  • Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Operate testing equipment and conduct geotechnical lab testing such as Atterberg Limits, Sieve Analysis, Unconfined Compressive strength test, Triaxial tests (UU, CU), Swell test, permeability tests independently or with minimum help
  • Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams to complete work
  • Maintain and calibrate standard equipment
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Perform project-specific observations and site assessments under general supervision and/or form detailed controlled procedures
  • Work off-shift and overtime as needed
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain lab cleanliness
