Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor within Performance Food Group (PFG), plays an essential role in America’s food supply chain by serving a diverse range of local customers. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company is known for its dedicated team that includes sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other foodservice experts, all committed to building strong, lasting relationships with customers. This team not only delivers high quality food products but also offers valuable consulting on menu development, operational strategies, and product selection, helping independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their business goals and enhance their operations. Performance Foodservice’s unique combination of expert advice and excellent distribution services makes it a key partner in the foodservice industry, celebrated for its customer-centric approach and commitment to excellence.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a vital role supporting this complex and efficient food distribution network. Drivers are responsible for transporting food and food-related products safely and timely to various customers, ensuring product quality and accuracy of deliveries. This position requires driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers act as the face of the company to customers, building strong customer relationships through professional, reliable service.
This role includes essential safety responsibilities consistent with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines, such as performing pre- and post-trip inspections, reporting safety issues, and maintaining detailed paperwork related to freight and deliveries. Drivers must ensure products are handled carefully, unloaded properly, and that delivery paperwork is completed accurately and legibly. The role also involves collecting payments where necessary, securing trailers and freight, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards both inside vehicles and at loading docks.
Performance Foodservice offers competitive pay ranging from $80,000 to $100,000 annually, alongside a comprehensive benefits package starting from day one. Benefits include health and wellness programs, a sign-on bonus of $10,000 (terms apply), an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The schedule typically requires a 4-5 day workweek with availability Monday through Saturday, and includes two weeks of training conducted in Temple, Texas. The company fosters a safe and inclusive workplace culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect to support employee growth and satisfaction.
With more than 12 months of commercial driving experience and a valid CDL-A license required, the CDL-A Driver role is ideal for professionals who are not only skilled behind the wheel but are also committed to compliance with safety standards and exemplary customer service. This position offers significant growth opportunity within a company dedicated to supporting essential services in the food distribution sector, making it an ideal choice for career-minded drivers seeking stability, excellent benefits, and meaningful work in a critical industry.
