The role of CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is both vital and dynamic, serving as a critical link in the nation's food supply chain by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food service products. Drivers in this role operate during intrastate and interstate routes as well as over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments, handling tractor trailers or straight trucks. Beyond just transportation, these drivers serve as the face of Performance Foodservice to customers, reinforcing company values through professionalism and building trusted relationships. The position demands thorough knowledge and strict adherence to Department of Transportation regulations, including comprehensive safety checks, load inspections, and accurate maintenance of paperwork such as shipping manifests and hours-of-service logs. Responsibilities further entail direct interaction with customers for product delivery verification and collection of payments when applicable. The role requires physical capability to handle freight of varying weights, often utilizing specialized equipment like hand trucks and lift gates, as well as a commitment to maintaining vehicle cleanlines and operational readiness. This essential position blends technical operation with customer service, demanding reliability, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative spirit that aligns with Performance Foodservice’s mission to support America’s food distribution system while cultivating a rewarding career path for its drivers.
