Job Description

HonorHealth is a leading nonprofit healthcare system based in Arizona, with a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1927. Over the decades, HonorHealth has grown to become one of Arizona's largest and most respected healthcare organizations, known for its commitment to providing compassionate care and promoting the health and well-being of the communities it serves. The organization prides itself on a culture that combines warmth, neighborly kindness, and a deep dedication to patient-centered care. At HonorHealth, every team member is valued as a skilled professional dedicated to positively impacting health outcomes and fostering community wellness across the greater Phoenix area.

The Exercise Physiologist: Fitness Specialist role at HonorHealth is a vital position within the organization’s comprehensive approach to medical fitness and wellness programming. This full-time role, offering varied shifts, focuses on delivering evidence-based fitness assessments, individualized exercise prescriptions, and personalized health coaching. The specialist works primarily with members across the medical fitness continuum, including those living with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. This role requires application of advanced exercise science principles, clinical fitness knowledge, and behavior-change strategies to promote safe exercise participation, improve functional capacity, and support long-term health and wellness. The specialist collaborates closely with clinical referral sources and fitness team members to ensure that all exercise programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each member, comply with safety standards, and align with organizational protocols.

In this role, the Exercise Physiologist conducts comprehensive health and fitness assessments, measuring key indicators like cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and body composition. By interpreting these outcomes intelligently, the specialist develops tailored exercise programs designed to help members achieve their health goals while considering any functional limitations or clinical conditions. The role emphasizes supporting special populations, including individuals with chronic health issues, by providing safe, effective, and targeted fitness programming.

Further responsibilities include member coaching, education, and facilitating program progression. The specialist provides fitness education, orientations, and literacy on exercise principles, helping members gain confidence and progress toward measurable fitness outcomes. Working as a clinical-program liaison, the specialist coordinates with healthcare providers to ensure smooth transitions from clinical care to fitness environments, supporting continuity of care.

Additionally, the role involves one-on-one and small-group training, assisting with group classes and fitness floor supervision to maintain safety and enhance member engagement. Accurate documentation, adherence to privacy standards aligned with HIPAA, and maintaining confidential records are fundamental operational requirements. Overall, this position offers an exciting opportunity for professionals dedicated to fostering health through exercise science within a supportive, dynamic healthcare system that values its employees' growth and development.
