Job Description
Cavallo Point is a renowned luxury lodge located in the San Francisco Bay area, nestled within one of America's most visited national parks. This prestigious establishment is recognized not only for its exceptional hospitality but also for its environmentally sustainable design, having earned the LEED Gold Certification. Cavallo Point stands out as one of the most romantic destinations in the region and serves as an excellent base for exploring Northern California's natural beauty and attractions. Its commitment to excellence extends beyond service to include membership in Historic Hotels of America, and it has been acclaimed as one of the "Top 10 New American Landmarks" by Travel+Leisure magazine.
As part of its dynamic Food & Beverage Department, Cavallo Point is currently seeking an experienced Executive Steward to join their team. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, this leadership position plays a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and banquet areas. The Executive Steward oversees the entire stewarding team, ensuring that all dishes and equipment are properly washed, stored, and handled according to health department standards. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage labor costs efficiently, coordinate staff scheduling in alignment with banquet and outlet needs, and uphold the presentation standards of all steward personnel.
The Executive Steward will also be responsible for hiring, training, and continually developing stewarding staff to ensure their skills and performance meet the company’s expectations. Monitoring compliance with break schedules, managing employee timesheets, assisting with disciplinary actions, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the dishwashing stations and banquet pantries all fall under the purview of this position. Attention to detail is essential, particularly regarding inventory control of dishes and glasses, and communication with purchasing agents to ensure adequate supplies. The Executive Steward will coordinate with chefs and banquet managers to support smooth operations and maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment.
This position demands strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to oversee multiple employees and liaise effectively across departments. Physical stamina is required, as the role involves standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 pounds. Additionally, the candidate must possess basic computer skills for tasks such as managing email and spreadsheets. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is necessary, reflecting the lodge’s inclusive work environment and guest profile.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a minimum of two years of management experience in a similar role, and must obtain management health and safety certifications within 30 days of hiring. Cavallo Point offers a supportive work setting with opportunities to grow within the company, including promotions from within and ongoing job training.
Overall, becoming the Executive Steward at Cavallo Point means joining a dedicated team in a world-class resort where leadership, quality, and sustainability are the cornerstones of success. Employees benefit from a comprehensive suite of benefits designed to enhance their well-being and professional development, making this an outstanding career opportunity in hospitality management.
