The available position is a travel role primarily involving regional travel within Michigan, especially convenient for candidates located in the Detroit Metro area who can easily access various locations throughout the state. The successful applicant will support Executive Chefs and Directors by overseeing kitchen operations that ensure a safe, sanitary, and efficient work environment. This role involves preparing or directing the preparation of meals according to corporate culinary programs and standards while managing food safety and sanitation.

This position is essential for maintaining high-quality food service in senior living communities, demanding strong adherence to corporate culinary guidelines, cost control measures, and food presentation standards. The candidate is responsible for coordinating kitchen personnel, ensuring creative and cost-effective meal preparation, and assisting in inventory planning and ordering. Supervising kitchen cleanliness, organization, and sanitation is a critical aspect of the role to guarantee compliance with health and safety standards.

Candidates for this role must have substantial experience in senior living or healthcare culinary environments, ensuring familiarity with institutional, batch cooking, and high-volume foodservice operations. The role requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Culinary Arts or a related field, or an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Culinary Arts supplemented with advanced specialized training. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and email communications, is essential for managing operational tasks and culinary program rollouts.

Job Requirements

  • Must live in Detroit Metro area or be willing to travel regionally within Michigan
  • Senior living or healthcare culinary experience required

Job Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Culinary Arts or related field
  • A.O.S. degree in Culinary Arts with specialized training
  • 3-5 years of relevant culinary experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of food cost and kitchen product quality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, email, and the internet
  • Experience in high volume, complex foodservice operations
  • Institutional and batch cooking experience helpful

Job Duties

  • Coordinate activities of kitchen personnel engaged in preparation of food service
  • Ensure high quality food items are creatively prepared and presented in a cost effective manner
  • Assist in planning, ordering, inventory, and food preparation
  • Support management of cost controls and expenditures for the account
  • Roll out new culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams
  • Supervise cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the kitchen
  • Perform other duties as assigned
