We are currently seeking an experienced Executive Sous Chef to oversee culinary operations at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. This role represents a unique leadership opportunity within a dynamic and fast-paced catering environment. The Executive Sous Chef will play a vital role in shaping exceptional dining experiences by providing hands-on guidance in menu planning, program execution, and staff development. Responsible for supporting the Executive Chef, the Executive Sous Chef will manage all kitchen operations within the convention center, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality food and service standards.
In this role, you will be directly involved in menu creation and customization, taking into account client preferences, seasonal ingredients, and dietary requirements. You will oversee the preparation and presentation of food for large-scale events, coordinating closely with event managers to ensure seamless service aligned with event schedules. Your leadership extends to training, mentoring, and motivating kitchen staff to enhance their skills and efficiency. You will also maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, contributing to budget management through cost control and waste reduction initiatives.

Job Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent experience
- 1 year of related experience
Job Qualifications
- Experience as a sous chef or similar role in a high-volume kitchen
- Strong culinary knowledge across multiple cuisines and techniques
- Leadership skills with the ability to develop and motivate staff
- Solid organization and time management abilities
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple tasks
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and inventory practices
- Clear, effective communication skills
- Ability to work safely in tight, noisy, and temperature variable environments
