Marriott International is a globally recognized hospitality company known for its commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences across a diverse portfolio of brands. Among these, Marriott Hotels stand out for their dedication to elevating the art of hospitality through innovation and heartfelt service. Marriott Hotels cultivate an environment where associates are valued, supported, and encouraged to grow both professionally and personally. The company actively promotes a culture of inclusivity, where unique backgrounds and perspectives are celebrated, reflecting its strong commitment to equal opportunity and non-discrimination across all levels of employment. Marriott’s presence spans gateway cities and distinctive resort locations worldwide, making it a leading name in luxury and comfort in the hotel industry.

This role is based within JW Marriott, part of Marriott International’s luxury portfolio, which boasts over 100 prestigious properties globally. JW Marriott emphasizes associate well-being and professional development, creating a work environment characterized by genuine camaraderie, continuous learning opportunities, and a holistic approach to employee health and happiness. JW Marriott is committed to upholding a legacy of excellence inspired by the company’s founder, J. Willard Marriott, and fostering a community where associates can truly thrive. This commitment translates into superior service for guests, beginning with the exceptional care and respect given to team members.

The Culinary Leadership role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced culinary professional to exhibit their culinary talents by performing hands-on tasks while also assisting in leading kitchen staff and managing all food-related functions. The position plays a crucial role in enhancing both guest and employee satisfaction by ensuring a consistent high-quality product across various food preparation areas, including banquets, room service, restaurants, bar/lounge, and the employee cafeteria. Additionally, this role involves overseeing support functions such as dish room operations and purchasing, contributing to overall operational excellence.

The Culinary Leader is responsible for supervising and guiding kitchen staff, including performance management, mentoring, and training. Ensuring adherence to sanitation and food safety standards is paramount, with the candidate needing to maintain strict compliance with food handling practices, proper food storage, and presentation techniques. The role demands a hands-on approach, allowing the leader to step in and perform duties as necessary to cover staff absences or operational needs.

Key responsibilities include setting and maintaining goals aligned with culinary functions, such as budgeting, performance objectives, and cost control measures related to food, supplies, uniforms, and equipment. This role also involves enhancing the culinary team’s skills by demonstrating new cooking techniques and equipment, fostering a collaborative and respectful working environment, and ensuring all food preparation meets the brand’s quality and safety standards.

Customer service excellence is integral to this position. The Culinary Leader must support and encourage service behaviors that exceed guest expectations, provide coaching to staff on service delivery, and actively seek guest feedback to drive continuous improvement. This role requires interaction with guests to address any concerns promptly and effectively, thereby ensuring a positive dining experience that reflects Marriott’s hospitality standards.

Human resource responsibilities include identifying development needs among kitchen associates, managing disciplinary processes fairly and consistently, and administering performance appraisals. This leadership role emphasizes maintaining open communication channels through an "open door" policy, promoting trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.

Ultimately, this role at JW Marriott offers a thriving career path for culinary professionals eager to lead with integrity and creativity in a luxury hospitality environment. It provides a platform for growth, recognition, and fulfillment in line with Marriott’s mission to be where employees can do their best work, begin their purpose, belong to an amazing global team, and become their best selves.
