As a kitchen operations leader, you will be responsible for preparing meals according to standardized recipes and ensuring that food presentation is both attractive and timely. Your role includes setting up food service lines, managing condiments and garnishes, and assisting in recipe and menu development to keep dining offerings fresh and appealing. You will coordinate preparation activities for upcoming menus, lead pre-meal briefings with the food service team, and provide training for new employees to ensure consistency and excellence in service.

Additionally, managing the kitchen staff schedule, ensuring adequate coverage for shifts, and handling inventory and food ordering will be critical aspects of your responsibilities. Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a commercial kitchen or related field
  • Associate's Degree in culinary arts preferred
  • Serv Safe certification required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage and lead a diverse culinary team
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working in a commercial kitchen environment and/or a related certificate or degree from a college or technical school
  • Associate's Degree in culinary related field preferred
  • Serv Safe or other required local, county or state certifications
  • Organized and great at communicating with co-workers and residents
  • Pride in the quality and presentation of food prepared
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of cooking and preparation of meals
  • Thorough understanding of food service techniques and requirements
  • Great management skills and willingness to work harmoniously with staff
  • Ability to switch tasks quickly and often

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals from standardized recipes in accordance with order in a timely and attractive manner
  • Set up food service line and workstations with needed condiments
  • Ensure all condiments and garnishes that are required are prepared and served with the appropriate foods
  • Assist in recipe and menu development
  • Coordinate prep for the following day's menu
  • Lead a pre-meal meeting with food servers to review detail of daily menu
  • Assist with training of new kitchen employees
  • Ensure an adequate number of culinary employees each shift and ensure absences are covered to prevent coverage holes
  • Assist with scheduling of employees within the department
  • Assist with food ordering, monitoring inventory and creating the menu cycle
  • Keep stock rooms, coolers, and freezers clean and ensure that food supply stocks are rotated and labeled appropriately
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food preparation according to health department code requirements
  • Keep food waste to a minimum by utilizing food storage and recycling techniques
  • Manage and supervise sous chefs, cooks, lead cooks, prep cooks, and utility workers as needed
