Job Description

Flik Independent School Dining is a distinguished leader in transforming private and independent school foodservice across more than 300 communities, with a proud legacy spanning over four decades. As a member of Compass Group USA, Flik is committed to delivering exceptional foodservice experiences tailored specifically for K-12 private and independent schools. Their passionate team of associates works tirelessly to provide meals crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, supporting sustainable agricultural practices that positively impact local communities. Beyond just serving nutritious and delicious meals, Flik Independent School Dining integrates innovative nutrition education programs designed to empower students. These programs encourage students to make informed, healthy choices on a daily basis, fostering lifelong habits that contribute to overall wellness and academic success. The company's ethos is grounded in three core values: nourishing the whole person, creating community through great food and programming, and always doing what is right. These principles guide everything Flik does as it continues on its mission of "Nourishing a Brighter Future."

The Executive Chef role at Flik Independent School Dining is a pivotal leadership position that plays a crucial role in orchestrating all culinary operations within a private or independent K-12 school setting. This position is hands-on and requires a deep dedication to food quality, safety, innovation, and excellence in service. As the driving force behind the culinary team, the Executive Chef leads menu planning, recipe development, and the execution of food preparation, ensuring that every meal served is not only nutritious but also appealing and presented to the highest standards. The role also involves meticulous management of food and labor costs, maintaining strict adherence to budgetary guidelines, and implementing effective cost control strategies that sustain operational efficiency without compromising quality.

In addition to overseeing the kitchen operations, the Executive Chef manages the procurement of food and kitchen supplies, maintains vendor relationships, and keeps an accurate inventory to support seamless kitchen workflow. This role demands rigorous compliance with food safety, sanitation, and allergy protocols, including adherence to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards, guaranteeing a safe dining environment for students and staff alike.

Leadership and team development are central to the role: recruiting, training, and mentoring culinary associates to foster a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous learning. The Executive Chef collaborates closely with marketing and culinary teams to develop seasonal menus and promotional programs that excite and engage the school community. Furthermore, the role supports special events and catering functions, ensuring the delivery of outstanding food quality and flawless execution.

Operational supervision extends to the back-of-house environment, where cleanliness, organization, and compliance with both company policies and regulatory requirements are paramount. Working hand in hand with the Director of Dining, the Executive Chef engages in performance management activities, including preparing and conducting annual performance evaluations. This role offers an opportunity to significantly influence the dining experience and impact the health and well-being of students, staff, and the broader school community.

Flik Independent School Dining offers a competitive salary ranging from $80,000 to $90,000 per year for this full-time position. Joining this team means contributing to a visionary organization dedicated to high standards, sustainability, community, and educational excellence through foodservice. It's an exciting career opportunity for culinary leaders who are passionate about crafting exceptional dining experiences and making a positive impression on the next generation's nutrition and well-being.
