Job Description

Bon Appetit Management Company is a leader in the contract food service industry known for its commitment to great food and outstanding service. Unlike traditional restaurant chains that rely on standardized recipes or centralized commissaries, Bon Appetit empowers its managers and chefs to embrace creativity and stay current with culinary trends. This innovative approach allows the company to serve cutting-edge food in its cafeterias and cafes, thereby providing a unique dining experience that is far from routine or predictable. Established as a restaurant company that operates within contract food service, Bon Appetit supports its teams by encouraging creativity, risk-taking, and continuous learning. The company’s rapid growth and diverse range of accounts provide dynamic career opportunities, ensuring employees can develop their skills and rise within the organization. Bon Appetit is a member of Compass Group USA and offers competitive salaries and benefits to its associates. This role of Executive Chef is a fantastic opportunity for those passionate about culinary arts and leadership in a fast-paced, complex foodservice environment.

The Executive Chef at Bon Appetit has a key leadership role overseeing all kitchen and evening food and beverage operations with a focus on maintaining the highest culinary standards, food safety compliance, and operational efficiency. This role is responsible for managing the Night Bar Program and Dinner on the Go offerings across multiple cafes, ensuring consistent quality and excellent service during dinner hours. The ideal candidate will demonstrate hands-on chef leadership experience, excellent culinary creativity, and strong management skills to lead a high-volume operation while controlling costs and developing team members. Working Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with some flexibility for a Monday shift to prepare for the week and support daytime campus events, the Executive Chef reports directly to the Culinary Director but maintains dotted-line reporting to additional leadership. This position also benefits from a supportive work environment offering a daily shift meal, paid company holidays with extra paid time off, and a work phone or cell phone stipend.

Responsibilities include developing and executing regular and specialty menus that align with company programs and client expectations. The Executive Chef ensures adherence to portion controls, standardized recipes, and production processes while monitoring food quality and waste. Training and developing kitchen staff on food preparation, safety, and sanitation is essential to maintaining performance standards. The role also oversees inventory management, cost control, and efficient use of leftover products within company guidelines. Compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and company policies is mandatory. This position occasionally supports the PM Catering team but is not directly involved in catering operations. As a member of the Bon Appetit team, the Executive Chef participates in ongoing meetings and professional development opportunities, fostering a culture of growth and excellence within the company. Bon Appetit values diversity and inclusion, offering equal employment opportunities and maintaining a drug-free workplace. This role requires a passionate culinary professional ready to lead with creativity and operational expertise while delivering an exceptional dining experience to guests.
