The role of Executive Chef at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena, is a full-time position that reports directly to the Director of Food & Beverage and offers a competitive salary range of $135,000 to $140,000 per year. This leadership role is integral to maintaining the hotel’s culinary excellence and ensuring that all food and beverage outlets consistently meet and exceed local culinary standards. An Executive Chef at Langham is entrusted with a wide variety of responsibilities that blend creative culinary talents with strong operational management skills. These include menu planning, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, scheduling, and the ongoing coaching and mentoring of kitchen staff. The role demands a deep commitment to food quality, safety, and compliance with health regulations, as well as managing costs effectively to maintain profitability. Beyond kitchen operations, the Executive Chef is expected to engage in strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the hotel’s financial performance and increasing the brand's visibility both within the hotel and the local market. The role also involves close coordination with other departments such as sales and catering to align culinary offerings with the overall guest experience and business objectives. Candidates suited for this position will have a strong background in luxury hospitality culinary management, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work under pressure to deliver outstanding guest experiences consistently.

Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Three years experience in similar position
  • Experience within the hospitality industry
  • Previous luxury market experience
  • CA Food Handling certification preferably Kitchen Manager
  • Ability to meet budgeted revenue goals
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and follow up
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility in schedule
  • Ability to work cohesively in a team environment
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing desirable
  • Previous guest relation training desirable
  • Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to relay instructions and ask for help when needed.

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Culinary college degree preferred
  • Three years experience in a similar position
  • Experience working or training within the hospitality industry
  • Previous experience in a luxury market
  • CA Food Handling certification, preferably Kitchen Manager
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to meet budgeted revenue goals
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Experience with guest relations training preferred.

Job Duties

  • Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel features/services and hours of operation
  • Maintain complete knowledge and comply with hotel and departmental policies and procedures
  • Interview, hire, train, motivate and discipline culinary staff
  • Attend all required meetings including departmental and operational meetings
  • Review daily activities such as house counts, forecasted covers, catering activity, purchases, and VIP guests
  • Ensure staff compliance with policies and daily priorities
  • Review daily specials and banquet function sheets
  • Coordinate schedules and assignments with sous chefs
  • Take physical inventory and manage requisitions
  • Ensure the quality of products and compliance with health/safety regulations
  • Collaborate with Executive Steward for equipment and sanitation
  • Ensure timely arrival and attendance of kitchen staff
  • Operate departmental computer systems
  • Meet guest culinary needs and handle special requests promptly
  • Design marketing plans and develop monthly and holiday specials
  • Update menus and communicate changes
  • Submit reports to Corporate office
  • Manage working hours according to business demands.
