The Executive Chef role at Chartwells K12 within the Graniteville, SC school district presents a unique leadership opportunity for an innovative culinary professional with a passion for both food and education. This position is focused on overseeing kitchen operations for a premiere K12 school district, emphasizing safety, creativity, and precision. The Executive Chef will be responsible for designing and developing menus that meet K12 nutritional standards while appealing to students of diverse backgrounds and tastes. Creativity in menu development combined with adherence to portioning, presentation, and food safety guidelines is essential for success in this role.
As a critical team leader, the Executive Chef will train and mentor kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, proper equipment use, and safety and sanitation protocols. A strong commitment to maintaining hygienic and safe kitchen environments is a key responsibility to meet health regulations and internal standards. Additionally, effective inventory management ensures that food supplies are efficiently used while maintaining adequate availability for daily operations. The role also involves collaborating with the Director and other stakeholders to support continuous improvement initiatives, staff development, and alignment with department procedures.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- minimum two years of culinary or kitchen management experience
- demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- ability to manage kitchen operations including inventory and staff training
- proficient in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
- strong communication and leadership skills
- ability to work flexible hours including early mornings and occasional weekends
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree desired or equivalent experience in culinary arts
- two plus years of culinary or kitchen management experience with catering experience preferred
- proven success in complex foodservice operations with a solid base in institutional and batch cooking
- hands-on chef experience accompanied by solid knowledge of food trends emphasizing quality production sanitation cost control and presentation
- proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office suite and email systems
- willingness to actively engage in client satisfaction programs and activities
- ServSafe certification is highly desirable highlighting a commitment to food safety
Job Duties
- Develops regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards ensuring adherence to portioning and presentation guidelines
- trains kitchen staff in food preparation equipment operation and safety protocols promoting a culture of excellence
- establishes and maintains thorough cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and work areas
- handles inventory of food and supplies optimizing utilization while ensuring vital products are readily available
- ensures compliance with health and sanitation regulations through meticulous adherence to department procedures and participation in audits
- actively participates in departmental meetings staff development initiatives and professional programs to stay abreast of industry trends
- performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of a dining service operation
