Job Description

Athletes in Action is a ministry of Cru dedicated to using the platform of sport to help individuals know and follow Jesus. This organization offers a dynamic and spiritually enriching environment through camps, retreats, conferences, competitions, and events, fostering personal and spiritual growth for athletes, coaches, and guests. Located within a vibrant Sports Complex and Retreat Center, the ministry emphasizes hospitality as a core element of its mission. Each meal served, every event supported, and each guest welcomed plays a significant role in creating meaningful experiences where people feel valued and cared for. Joining Athletes in Action means becoming part of a team deeply committed to excellence, hospitality, and Christ-centered service, impacting lives beyond the usual scope of food service.

The role of Culinary Director/Manager at Athletes in Action is a full-time, onsite position based in Xenia, Ohio, offering an annual salary of 52,000 dollars. This leadership position is ideal for a servant-hearted individual passionate about culinary arts, hospitality, and fostering a positive team culture. The Culinary Director will oversee all culinary and food service operations across multiple facilities, including the Sports Complex, Retreat Center, and Wooden Family Fieldhouse. This includes leading menu planning and recipe development, managing food and beverage budgets, and ensuring exceptional guest experiences. The person in this role will also be responsible for recruiting, training, and developing a culinary team, promoting a culture of excellence, creativity, and service.

More than just managing culinary operations, this role demands hands-on leadership—whether supporting meal preparation or stepping in during critical service times. The Culinary Director must maintain high standards for food safety, sanitation, and inspection-readiness, complying with all regulatory requirements such as ServSafe. Coaching and performance management of staff are integral parts of the job, encouraging ongoing professional growth and fostering a positive workplace atmosphere. Additionally, the role involves collaboration with internal departments to support a wide range of ministry activities, from retreats and camps to special events and concession operations.

Creativity and innovation are encouraged, as the Culinary Director is expected to explore and implement new culinary techniques and best practices, enhancing both the guest experience and operational efficiency. Above all, this role requires aligning with the organization's Christian values—modeling Christ-centered leadership and contributing to the spiritual culture of the ministry. The Culinary Director will be a key figure in using their culinary and leadership gifts to support Athletes in Action's mission to impact lives for Christ through the platform of sports. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine professional culinary management with meaningful ministry work in a supportive and faith-driven environment.
