The role of Research & Development Cantonese Area Executive Chef at Sodexo offers a unique opportunity to lead culinary advancements focused on authentic and modern Cantonese cuisine within the New Jersey/New York tri-state area corporate services sector. This position involves the creation of innovative menu concepts, the refinement of existing recipes, and supporting multi-location culinary operations to consistently deliver high-quality Cantonese dishes. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in traditional Cantonese cooking techniques combined with creative flair to drive innovation in a fast-paced environment.

As an Asian Market Chinese Specialist Chef within the Asian Markets Squad, you will play a pivotal role in culinary leadership and content development. You will support critical customer presentations and lead new menu ideation from a culinary perspective. Your expertise in savory and scratch cooking, along with flavor development, will be essential in enhancing the value of Sodexo's culinary offerings. Collaboration is key in this role, requiring cross-functional partnership with teams including Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure alignment and support of zone priorities.

This remote position demands flexibility and resilience, requiring frequent travel up to 50% within the New Jersey/New York region to fulfill its responsibilities effectively. As a bilingual professional fluent in Cantonese and English, you will facilitate accurate translation and culturally relevant adaptation of selling stories, packaging, and recipes between languages and measurement systems.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience
  • Minimum of 3 years culinary experience in the foodservice industry
  • Proven experience working in Chinese kitchens specializing in Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine
  • Bilingual proficiency in Cantonese and English
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Residency in or near the New Jersey/New York area
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership and collaboration abilities

Job Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Cantonese and English with the ability to communicate culinary and commercial concepts clearly in both languages
  • Minimum of 3 years culinary experience in the Foodservice Industry (Corporate or Kitchen)
  • Minimum of 3 years working in Chinese kitchens in the US/Canada specializing in Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving and solution selling mindset
  • Ability to collaborate with sales teams and cross-functional departments
  • Understanding of distribution network of restaurants
  • Accountability for delivering KPIs and goals as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Provide culinary leadership and expertise as an Asian Market Chinese Specialist Chef in support of the Asian Markets Squad
  • Support critical customer presentations and lead new menu ideation from a culinary perspective
  • Act as a savory subject matter expert with a strong focus on scratch cooking and flavor development
  • Lead culinary content development for assigned North American projects in collaboration with chef peers and the Head Chef
  • Accelerate savory/scratch cooking growth initiatives that enhance the value of UFS brands for both existing and prospective customers
  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, CD Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to align resources and support zone priorities
  • Translate selling stories, packaging, and recipes between Cantonese and English with accuracy and cultural relevance
  • Interpret and convert metric and imperial measurements for recipes and culinary materials
