Job Description

Located on the vibrant campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Chartwells Higher Education is currently seeking an Executive Chef to join their Food & Beverage leadership team. This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 to $70,000 annually, along with relocation assistance to support a smooth transition to the area.

The Executive Chef will oversee the East Village Commons dining facility, an all-you-care-to-enjoy establishment known for its dynamic, global menu and fresh food preparation showcased live in the two-story dining hall. The venue features unique stations such as the popular Mongolian Grill, a central rotisserie, a full-service bakery, and a convenience store, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with varying hours throughout the week.

This role requires a dedicated culinary professional who can blend creativity and operational excellence to maintain high standards in food quality, safety, and presentation. The Executive Chef will be responsible for menu planning focused on international flavors, training kitchen staff on best practices in food prep and sanitation, and ensuring compliance with all health regulations. This position also involves managing inventory, equipment maintenance, and contributing to a student-centered dining experience that supports Baylor University's diverse population.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Three to five years of culinary/kitchen management experience
  • Proven leadership skills in a high-volume foodservice environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to manage inventory and supply procurement effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related computer applications
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Qualifications

  • A.S. or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Experienced with computers
  • to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, E-mail and the Internet
  • Extensive catering experience a plus
  • High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable
  • ServSafe certified - highly desirable

Job Duties

  • Plans regular and modified menus according to established guidelines
  • Trains kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, and operation of equipment, food safety and sanitation based on Company and regulatory standards
  • Establishes and maintains cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage and work areas
  • Maintains inventory of food and non-food supplies to stay within established guidelines while assuring that necessary product is available when needed
  • Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
