The Executive Chef position at Legends Global presents an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned culinary professional passionate about high-volume, event-driven food service. This full-time, exempt role is based at The Oncenter in Syracuse, New York, where the Executive Chef will play a pivotal role in leading the culinary operations of a bustling convention and event center known for high-profile banquets, concessions, and large-scale conventions.

This role demands strong leadership capabilities, combining menu planning, operational efficiency, team management, and a commitment to exceptional quality and service. The Executive Chef will collaborate closely with the Catering and Management Teams to plan and execute diverse catering functions, tailoring menus to meet the unique preferences and dietary requirements of a varied clientele. Beyond managing food production, the Executive Chef will oversee staff training and development, food purchasing, cost control, and budget adherence, ensuring profitable operations without sacrificing quality standards.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of hands-on experience in banquet facility producing meals for large or multiple events
  • Two-year associate degree in culinary arts or related education and experience
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • ServSafe and TIPS certification preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Ability to use and train others on kitchen equipment
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS, and timekeeping systems
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, team, and event-driven setting
  • Exceptional customer service and hospitality skills
  • Independent decision-making skills within policy
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods
  • Ability to work in noisy environment

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Lead culinary operations at The Oncenter ensuring top-notch quality, presentation, and service
  • Collaborate with the Catering and Management Team for planning and executing large-scale events, conventions, concessions, and banquets
  • Coordinate with event planners, sales teams, and clients to customize menus for specific events
  • Assist with designing innovative menus catering to diverse preferences and dietary needs
  • Manage kitchen staff providing guidance, training, and leadership
  • Assist with food purchasing, cost control, and budget management for profitability while maintaining quality standards
  • Uphold health, safety, and sanitation standards ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry best practices
  • Assist in hiring and onboarding including interviewing, orientation, and training
  • Implement corrective action procedures in collaboration with Human Resources
  • Stay up to date on culinary trends to elevate the convention center's offerings
