The role of Resort Executive Chef at Crystal Mountain is pivotal to the resort’s food and beverage operations, underscoring its reputation for exceptional dining experiences. Reporting directly to the Director of Food & Beverage, the Executive Chef provides senior culinary leadership, directing all culinary and stewarding operations across multiple year-round and seasonal dining venues. This leadership position is essential for maintaining high culinary standards, food safety compliance, and operational excellence, which together elevate the guest experience and drive financial success. The Executive Chef manages a team of culinary professionals, including overseeing the Executive Sous Chef and resort culinary teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.

Key responsibilities include menu planning and execution, inventory management, labor and cost control, and health and safety compliance. The Executive Chef plays a strategic role in shaping culinary innovation and quality, participating in special events, festivals, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-volume food services. This role requires a creative problem solver with expert skills in culinary techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety regulations. The position also demands strong leadership to develop talent within the culinary team and to maintain efficient kitchen operations throughout the year.

Located at Crystal Mountain in Washington state, this position offers an attractive wage range of $95,000 to $115,000 annually, with bonus eligibility. Successful candidates will be part of a dynamic and supportive work environment where their culinary expertise will make a direct impact on the resort’s guests and community. The resort emphasizes a professional atmosphere with opportunities for growth, professional development, and a balanced work-play lifestyle amidst some of the most stunning mountain scenery in the country.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to ski/snowboard at an intermediate level to access all venues
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays while in operation
  • Able to lift, carry, or move a minimum of 20 pounds occasionally
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment constantly
  • Auditory and visual ability to operate computers, phones, mobile devices, and basic office equipment constantly
  • Ability to work extended periods sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking constantly
  • Ability to work extended periods standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling occasionally
  • Talking and hearing continuously to communicate with guests, supervisors and other employees

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary Arts, Food Production, Hotel and Restaurant degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of on-the-job culinary experience, of which at least 4 years are in the capacity of Executive Chef
  • Creative problem-solver driving solution-based approaches to operational challenges
  • Demonstrated ability of organization, dependability, Mise en place, and execution in high-volume venues
  • Team builder and ability to successfully manage and develop a team
  • Skilled in the use of kitchen equipment, safety equipment, basic computer skills with advanced MS Office skills, and knowledge of local TCPHD regulations
  • Maintain a professional approach and demeanor at all times
  • Ability to produce a high volume of high-quality work in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of various software such as MS Office Suite, specifically Excel and Teams, FoodTrak / Craftable, PMIX and Sales reports, P&L statements

Job Duties

  • Ensures great guest service through consistent execution of all menus and recipes, training and accountability of the culinary team in execution
  • Train and manage all culinary and stewarding personnel
  • Review, evaluate, and coach all kitchen personnel, including regular staff meetings
  • Coach and support Executive Sous Chef with controlling the day-to-day operation of all kitchens, ensuring a high-quality product and minimal waste
  • Oversee the preparation and execution, and collaborate on design and creation of all menus, including banquets and daily specials
  • Lead the organization Culinary and food safety in food festivals and special culinary events
  • Maintain cleanliness and good working order of all kitchens, refrigerators and storage areas in compliance with TCPHD standards and Alterra standards of food safety
