Job Description

The National Democratic Club (NDC) is a prestigious private membership organization founded in 1953 by former members of the Truman Administration. It was established to provide a welcoming social atmosphere dedicated to advancing Democratic Party principles. The Club boasts an illustrious membership base that includes White House officials, members of the United States House of Representatives and Senate, as well as national leaders from the business and industrial sectors. Located on Capitol Hill, the Club enjoys a prime setting just blocks from key landmarks like Congressional office buildings, the Library of Congress, and the US Supreme Court. Its location offers convenient access to the Capitol South Metro Station, served by the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, enhancing accessibility for both members and staff.

The National Democratic Club is currently seeking an experienced Executive Chef to lead its culinary operations within this exclusive environment. This full-time leadership role is ideal for someone with a proven track record in fine dining or private club settings, particularly someone who thrives on creating exceptional gastronomic experiences tailored for a discerning clientele. The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing a unionized workforce, managing all aspects of the kitchen including menu development, banquet and catering event production, and overall financial oversight related to food service operations. Reporting to the Club management, the Executive Chef will work closely with Club members, management, and kitchen staff to uphold the highest standards of quality and service.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $115,000 annually depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package. The working schedule is Monday through Friday, reflecting the Club's closure on weekends, federal holidays, and extended recess periods during August and December. The work environment requires exceptional time management skills, extreme attention to detail, and an ability to coach and lead a diverse culinary team effectively. This role also demands physical stamina, as standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds are part of the daily responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will bring 7 to 10 years of experience as an Executive Chef in fine dining or private club settings, a reputation for excellence and creativity in menu design, and effective management of P&L responsibilities. Union workforce management expertise and an understanding of banquet and catering event production are critical for this role. Bonus qualifications include Spanish language skills, familiarity with the Toast POS system, and experience in pastry or sushi preparation, although these are not mandatory.

Joining the National Democratic Club as Executive Chef means joining a respected institution where culinary excellence meets influential membership, creating a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a highly regarded social and political environment. This role is perfect for a dedicated culinary leader looking to elevate their career in one of Washington, D.C.'s historic and vibrant settings.
