We are currently seeking an Executive Chef to join our team at North Star Retirement Community. This role is pivotal within the culinary operations of the community, overseeing the preparation and delivery of meals that meet the nutritional and taste preferences of our senior residents. The Executive Chef will be responsible for managing a team of chefs and kitchen staff, ensuring a fine dining experience is consistently provided through breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events. This position demands a dynamic leader who values precision, creativity in menu development, and budget management. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years experience as an Executive Chef or Assistant Executive Chef
- Five years experience in kitchen work in medium to large organizations
- Experience with hiring, training and managing food service personnel
- Knowledge of culinary techniques and terminology
- Ability to operate computers for data entry
- Must have or obtain ServSafe certificate within 30 days of hire
Job Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge of special diets and meal preparation for large groups
- Two years related experience as an Executive Chef or Assistant Executive Chef in a comparable size food service operation
- Five years experience in kitchen work in medium to large organizations
- Two plus years’ experience in hiring, training and managing food service personnel
- Experience executing culinary techniques including menu design, food preparation and artistic food design
- Knowledge of culinary terminology
- Ability to operate computer equipment for data entry and retrieval
- Must have ServSafe certificate or obtain within 30 days of hire
Job Duties
- Plan, test and assess cost of new menus and menu items
- Clean and supervise the cleaning of work areas, equipment and utensils, and maintain sanitation standards in accordance with health regulations
- Function as the lead worker over cooks and food service personnel engaged in preparation, cooking, and serving of food
- Participate in interviewing and selection of food service personnel and handle personnel actions including hiring, termination, promotion, discipline, and corrective actions
- Schedule and reschedule staff, exercise discretion in granting employee requests for time off and work schedule modifications
- Read and understand financial performance, adjust activities to meet budgetary guidelines
- Responsible for purchasing, maintaining inventory of food products and kitchen supplies, conducting month-end inventory and inspecting quality and quantity of deliveries
