At its Hampton Roads Convention Center location, Legends Global is expanding its team to include an Executive Chef who will play a pivotal role in the Food and Beverage department. This position is salaried exempt and reports directly to the Director of Food and Beverage, highlighting the importance of leadership and strategic involvement in the culinary operations of the facility.
The Executive Chef position at Legends Global's Hampton Roads Convention Center is a critical leadership role responsible for managing the entire culinary operations within the facility. This includes overseeing the purchasing, receiving, and production of all food items, ensuring that every event is catered with the highest standard of quality and presentation. The Executive Chef is also tasked with supervising the stewarding department and maintaining all culinary equipment, including china, glassware, and silverware, to guarantee an impeccable dining experience for guests. This role requires close collaboration with other departments and a strong connection with the local hospitality industry to promote the venue and uphold its reputation.
The scope of responsibilities includes developing menus, preparing detailed proposals and tastings for potential clients, and actively participating in promotional events to elevate the facility’s profile. The Executive Chef must maintain vigilance over food costs and adhere to budget goals, demonstrating strong financial acumen. An essential aspect of this role is to maintain the facility's Health Department score at 90 or above, ensuring compliance with all sanitation and safety regulations. The position demands advanced communication skills, the ability to manage and train staff effectively, and a creative approach to food presentation that meets client expectations. Job Requirements
- At least eight years of culinary experience in a banquet facility producing meals for large events
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Strong orientation to customer service and ability to work with other staff members in the facility
- Results oriented individual with the ability to meet required budgetary goals
- Excellent organizational, planning, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks
- Ability to be creative with food presentations and maintain a quality product
- Must maintain local Health Codes and sanitation HACCP
- Computer skills including Excel programs
- Serve-safe certification

Job Duties
- Ordering, receiving and preparing all food items
- Maintaining food costs and budget goals
- Produce required product according to banquet event orders for each event
- Develop proposals for potential clients, including tastings on larger plated events
- Entertain prospective clients of the Convention Center or Arena through Chef's tables
- Report on a daily basis to the Food and Beverage Director event-by-event costs
- Maintain an active role in local hospitality community and professional associations
- Attend in-house event-related meetings and relay immediate changes with other departments
- Develop menus and other projects
- Maintain all kitchen equipment cleanliness and annual maintenance
- Participate in promotional media related events to promote the facility
- Hiring and training of all kitchen and stewarding staff including serve safe and any Health department regulations
- Maintain and manage culinary and stewarding personnel to meet labor and production objectives
- Give oversight and direction to retail production and deliverability
- Maintain a Health Department score of 90 or higher
- Daily contact with the Director of Food and Beverage and other convention center employees
- Regular contact with all Catering managers and banquet and Concessions staff
