Job Description
Holladay Park Plaza is Portland, Oregon's premier upscale senior living community, renowned for its commitment to providing exceptional living experiences for older adults. Nestled in a vibrant neighborhood, this community combines luxury, comfort, and a rich array of amenities designed to foster independence, wellness, and social engagement among its residents. Holladay Park Plaza operates under the umbrella of Pacific Retirement Services (PRS), a respected organization dedicated to empowering people to lead meaningful lives as they age. The community's approach intertwines compassionate care and outstanding hospitality, offering residents a nurturing environment where aging is embraced as an opportunity to thrive.
The Executive Chef role at Holladay Park Plaza is a high-profile leadership position that requires extensive culinary expertise and a passion for senior living hospitality. This role is instrumental in shaping the dining experience across multiple venues, including a fine-dining restaurant, an upscale casual Bistro, catering services, and other culinary programs within the community. The Executive Chef will oversee the entire culinary department, ensuring that all food service activities not only meet high standards of quality and safety but also resonate with the personal tastes and dietary requirements of the residents.
As a leader within the department, the Executive Chef plays a pivotal role in mentoring and developing a team of culinary professionals and nutritional staff. They are expected to foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and innovation while upholding PRS’s core values: We Speak Up, We Step Up, We Lift Up, We Team Up. This position demands a leader who takes ownership with a strong vision and the ability to lead by example, creating an atmosphere where both residents and staff feel valued and inspired. The Executive Chef is also responsible for maintaining positive, transparent relationships with residents to ensure the dining experience is not only nutritious but also personalized and enjoyable.
The position offers an annual salary ranging between $85,000 and $95,000, depending on experience, reflecting the seniority and responsibility associated with this role. In addition to competitive compensation, the role provides opportunities for professional growth and development within a supportive and morale-driven work environment.
In this capacity, the Executive Chef will champion PRS's mission and vision, actively embedding these principles into daily operations. This involves visible leadership during key meal periods, engagement in resident events, and collaboration with various stakeholders including the Dining Services Director, Registered Dietician, and Corporate Culinary leadership. The role also requires managing culinary operations, such as recipe creation, menu planning tailored to resident preferences and dietary needs, and integrating menu items into nutritional software systems to ensure compliance and innovation.
Ensuring rigorous quality control, safety compliance, and operational excellence is a critical responsibility. The Executive Chef must maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation, oversee kitchen equipment maintenance, and implement effective cost controls and budgeting. Financial acumen is required to balance departmental expenditures while maintaining superior service.
Joining Holladay Park Plaza means becoming part of a forward-thinking community that celebrates aging as a time of opportunity. The Executive Chef will have the unique chance to impact the lives of seniors positively every day through culinary excellence and heartfelt leadership, all within a community committed to dignity, respect, and lifelong empowerment.
