Job Description

Greek House Chefs (GHC) is a renowned culinary company specialized in providing exceptional dining experiences in collegiate and organizational settings. The role of Executive Chef at GHC is critical to the successful operation of the GHC Kitchen where you will be employed. This leadership position entails managing and directing all culinary activities including menu planning, staff training, budget management, and supply procurement to ensure seamless kitchen operations. The Executive Chef works closely with both house management and GHC corporate leadership to maintain positive relationships with clients, ensuring all culinary services meet their expectations and nutritional requirements. Responsible for overseeing food preparation quality, kitchen cleanliness, and sanitation standards, the Executive Chef plays a pivotal role in upholding GHC’s commitment to excellence.

The Executive Chef is entrusted with maintaining a positive health status of the account, modifying and creating menus that align with both quality and budgetary constraints, and managing purchasing and inventory efficiently using the GHC App and other inventory management software. In addition, this role requires recruitment, training, and schedule management of kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to GHC’s health and safety policies, and active participation in routine quality reviews and special events planning. The Executive Chef will also handle vendor relationships, conduct regular kitchen inspections, and ensure all culinary activities align with company standards and client expectations. This role demands an individual with strong leadership, problem-solving capabilities, and effective communication skills to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Due to the nature of this role, the Executive Chef must be flexible with work hours, including a minimum workweek of 45-50 hours and availability for up to three special events each semester. The position also requires maintaining a professional appearance, consistent use of commercial kitchen equipment, and certification such as Serv Safe and food handler’s card as mandated by relevant authorities. Overall, the Executive Chef will be a key player in delivering unparalleled culinary experiences and ensuring operational success within the Greek House Chefs organization.

Job Requirements

  • Serv Safe Certification within the first available class following employment and maintain certification

Job Qualifications

  • 2-3 years lead sous or executive chef experience
  • culinary degree preferred
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions
  • ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • effective verbal communication skills
  • working knowledge of compliance software, database user interface and query software, inventory management software, and Greek House Chefs App
  • proficient with commercial kitchen equipment including blenders, broilers, convection ovens, cutlery, deep fryers, and mandolin slicers
  • strong coordination and monitoring skills
  • active listening and critical thinking abilities
  • good judgment and decision making
  • ability to communicate clearly with chefs and students
  • knowledge of workplace safety procedures

Job Duties

  • Ensures overall health of the account is positive and in good standing
  • plans and directs food preparation and culinary activities
  • modifies menus or create new ones that meet quality standards
  • recruits and manages kitchen staff
  • purchases and orders food supplies while managing budget
  • manages employee’s schedules and hours
  • manages the GHC App
  • ensures the overall cleanliness of the kitchen meets and exceeds GHC health and equipment cleaning standards
  • makes periodic inspections of units to observe quality of food preparation and service, food appearance, and cleanliness and sanitation
  • coordinates all training activities for kitchen and other production and service employees
  • follows proper training manual procedures for equipment item requests
  • develops recipes and portion specifications in accordance with GHC standards
  • creates and submits menu two weeks ahead for approval
  • submits budget via the GHC App on time weekly
  • checks with campus manager on weekly reports of app reviews
  • schedules and attends food committee reviews at least once a month
  • maintains a pleasant appearance and clean GHC Blue Embroider chef coat
  • works minimum of 45-50 hours per week
  • receives trucks and checks for quantity and quality
  • keeps availability open for up to 3 special events per semester and plans these events accordingly
  • maintains positive and professional working relationships with vendors, directors, and clients
  • works with management to establish account specific service procedures and implements training
  • monitors schedule and time management responsibilities for self and onsite staff
  • demonstrates strong knowledge of GHC Handbook
  • transfers to other worksites as deemed necessary
  • performs other duties as assigned
