Specializing in intimate, small ship experiences, the company maintains a fleet of vessels that hold no more than 200 passengers each, allowing for personalized and engaging journeys along America’s most scenic waterways and regions. With a commitment to quality and authentic American travel, American Cruise Lines focuses on delivering exceptional experiences that emphasize exploration, education, and entertainment. The company is grounded in its core values of Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit, which shape its culture, service, and team spirit. As they continue to expand their fleet with newly constructed vessels, there are exciting opportunities to join their dedicated shipboard management team for the upcoming 2026 season.
The role of the Excursions Director aboard American Cruise Lines' vessels is pivotal in crafting memorable guest experiences that extend beyond the ship. As the primary liaison for all shore excursions, the Excursions Director manages the planning, coordination, and execution of a diverse range of explorations, adventures, and transfers at each destination. This full-time, exempt position requires a highly energetic and resourceful individual who thrives on guest interaction and is dedicated to outstanding service. The Excursions Director is responsible for building strong relationships with external vendors and operators, ensuring smooth logistics and timely service to guests. They act as ambassadors of the American Cruise Lines brand, accompanying guests on excursions and engaging with them throughout the cruise, including informal opportunities such as meals and cocktail hours.
In this role, the Excursions Director must have an extensive knowledge of the cruising regions, ports of call, and all excursion options available. Key responsibilities include presenting detailed excursion briefings to guests, managing excursion inventory systems, coordinating launch boat operations, and overseeing all shore-based logistics. The position demands superior organizational skills, time management, and the ability to handle a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency. Creative problem-solving and a positive attitude are essential, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changes and unexpected challenges. The role also involves promoting onboard sales and brand loyalty programs.
Working aboard a ship involves unique physical demands and the ability to live in close quarters for extended periods. The Excursions Director will work approximately 7 days per week while onboard, with shifts lasting up to 12 hours daily. The work schedule typically consists of 6 to 8 weeks on the ship followed by 1 to 2 weeks off. Candidates must be able to perform essential functions related to the ship’s motion, physical agility requirements, and emergency procedures. This includes the ability to frequently lift heavy items, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and maintain balance on wet or uneven terrain.
American Cruise Lines offers a competitive daily rate along with comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance benefits, plus a 401(k) plan with company matching. Travel expenses, room and board, uniforms, and training are fully covered, ensuring that the Excursions Director can focus on delivering excellent service without concern for these necessities.
