Job Description
The position is available at a healthcare facility known for its dedication to providing specialized care to children, notably at the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital. This hospital is committed to creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for its patients, families, and visitors, ensuring that every individual experiences professional, courteous, and compassionate service. The Environmental Services Department plays a critical role in maintaining the standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety necessary for the delivery of exceptional healthcare. The department relies heavily on committed staff who can manage daily cleaning, waste disposal, and setup tasks with an emphasis on infection control and safety protocols.
The available role is for an Environmental Services Technician who will contribute to the upkeep and cleanliness of the hospital environment by performing a variety of duties that include floor maintenance, setup of meeting areas, and the proper handling of regulated medical waste. The hourly wage for this position starts at a minimum of $15, providing an attractive opportunity for candidates interested in working meaningful shifts with significant pay differentials. This role reports directly to the Supervisor of Environmental Services and does not include supervisory responsibilities. The technician is expected to uphold the hospital's environmental care philosophy, which highlights the importance of cleanliness in supporting patients' health and comfort.
The Environmental Services Technician will be responsible for safely using equipment such as automatic floor machines, burnishers, and extractors to clean floors and carpets effectively. The person in this role will also manage hospital waste, including biohazardous and chemotherapy waste, making sure all materials are removed and labeled according to strict regulatory standards. Additional duties include assisting with conference room setups, moving furniture or boxes periodically, sweeping and mopping stairways, and routine cleaning of elevators.
A key part of the job involves disinfecting patient rooms, core areas, and offices using the proper cleaning chemicals and safety equipment. This includes dusting, replacing trash and linen liners, restocking supplies, and promptly reporting maintenance needs to ensure a safe, orderly environment. The technician must participate in all required safety training programs and be knowledgeable about general safety procedures, department-specific hazards, and the hospital's exposure control plans.
Physical demands of this position require the ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally, with the potential for heavier loads during emergency situations. Frequent bending, walking, squatting, reaching, and standing are integral to the job, making it suitable for candidates who are physically capable and proactive. The hospital emphasizes teamwork, effective communication, and a positive attitude, expecting all employees to contribute to the overall customer service goals.
Overall, this role offers a valuable opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to supporting healthcare operations through environmental services. It is suited for those who can work efficiently, maintain high cleanliness standards, and interact respectfully with patients, families, visitors, and fellow staff members. By joining this team, employees help create a healthy, safe environment that directly impacts the quality of care provided at Dolly Parton Children's Hospital and the larger hospital community.
