As an EVS TECH 2 / FLOOR TECH, the successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties including meeting setups, floor maintenance using specialized equipment such as automatic floor machines, burnishers, and extractors, and the proper disposal and labeling of hospital waste including biohazardous and chemotherapy-related materials. This position plays a vital role in patient safety by effectively disinfecting patient rooms, core areas, and offices using appropriate cleaning techniques, chemicals, and personal protective equipment. The role demands attentiveness to detail and adherence to hospital exposure control plans, ensuring that all tasks meet departmental standards.
The EVS TECH 2 / FLOOR TECH also assists with conference room setups and occasionally helps in moving furniture or boxes, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork. It requires routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, damp mopping stairways and elevators, vacuuming, dusting, restocking supplies, and promptly reporting maintenance needs. The role requires a proactive attitude with the ability to communicate effectively with Environmental Services leadership about obstacles or issues that might impact work goals. This position thrives on promoting effective teamwork both within the department and interdepartmentally to support hospital goals and the overall customer service program.
Workplace safety is a key focus, with attendance at all required safety training programs and a thorough understanding of the responsibilities related to general safety and job-specific hazards. Physical demands are also a critical aspect of this role, involving heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, frequent bending, walking, standing, and squatting. The position demands endurance and resilience, with occasional need to lift or move objects weighing up to 150 lbs in emergency situations. Job Duties
- Uses approved equipment such as an automatic floor machine, burnisher and extractor to clean floors/carpets and clean up floods
- removes and labels hospital waste into appropriate receptacles including bio/hazardous waste and chemo waste
- assists with conference room set-ups and periodically assists in moving furniture/boxes
- sweeps and damp mops all of the stairways routinely and vacuums and damp mops all elevators routinely
- disinfects patient rooms, core areas and/or office using appropriate cleaning techniques, chemicals and personal protective equipment, including dusting, replacing trash and linen liners, restocking supplies, and promptly reporting maintenance needs
- attends all required safety training programs and can describe role responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards
- maintains work area and equipment in the condition required by department standards
